Howdy y'all. I had my first Dan Wesson when I lived in Utah early 80's.
I got a deal on the set with 4, 6 and 8" barrels in 357 magnum. Later I added a 12" barrel but almost never used it. The 8" was deadly on jackrabbits pretty much out to where I could spot 'e.
One nasty divorce later and she wandered off with my beloved Dans.
Today at the local gun store one of the guys asked me if I was still pining for my Dan Wessons.
Lo and behold they had a Model 44 with the "Power Control" barrel compensator. I never saw one before today.
It has old Pachmyr grips I need to replace and it'd be nice to have maintenance info on the pistol. I cannot for the life of me remember the lube points (besides the obvious), nor the cylinder gap.
Serial number starts out 44S0034 - it'd be nice to know when it was made. Any help y'all can give will be instantly absorbed.

Good to have you on the DWF. Here is the Instruction Manual for Large Frames. The factory states the gap be set at .006" but I tend to tighten that up to .003"-.004".
Technically, the glass is always full; half liquid, half air....

Thanks man! Yeah I really need to get me a barrel wrench since it's ported and since it was was nasty I really need to check that barrel.
I see everyone recommends EWK but they show out of stock. I know how it can get with these orphan guns.
The other ones I've found are priced stupid - $75 + S&H?
I also did a search for serial number lookup and couldn't find anything like we have on the Marlin forum I mod on.
Serial begins with 44S0034. Where would I look to find date of Mfg?
BTW - how do you post images here? I just get a box with no way to upload - so I need to link?

to the
Dan Wesson serial numbers are harder to come by, due to their closures and ownership turnarounds. Every time it happened, the ATF came in and seized all company records. The forum does maintain a Serial Number Registry of guns with date provenance, that we use as a general guide. According to the database, yours was probably made around 1994. Also, because your s/n starts with the 44S prefix, that means stainless, so you have a Model 744.

Loading pictures is easier from a PC, mobile devices can be more difficult to impossible, depending on your hardware and O/S.

Take a gander here: Add images to a Post.
The site software has changed a bit but the process is nearly the same. Start by selecting the "Attachments" radio button at the bottom left of your reply box.
I drag and drop files into the "Select Files" area and start upload. You can upload multiple files simultaneously.
Hope I didn't confuse you.

Ah! I was using the insert/edit pic icon in the toolbar.
I had wanted add if this was the barrel type y'all refer to as "porkchop". It doesn't seem to have a flat facing like I've seen on some pics.
