New member chiming in. I just picked up a 15-2 8HV. It needs some work but if you already have a dozen projects going on, what's one more…
I regret selling my 44 8HV 20 or so years ago when I went back to school and let my LTC expire. Since I got my license again two years ago I've been looking to replace the 44 but DWs are hard to come by in MA. The .357 is a start. I'll be looking for a 6HV and perhaps a 4HV barrel assembly. I've ordered a set of Wolff springs and a few internal bits to replace some that are worn. If I get bored enough today I may make myself a barrel wrench.
Looks like a good forum to gain (and perhaps share) some knowledge.
Cheers

Welcome to DWF from your neighbor to the south. DW's are becoming a bit more scarce here as well, and prices (which used to be very good) are rising.
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Thanks for the 'welcome', guys! Here 'tis...
One of the problems with getting these beauties is that you can't bring them into MA from another state. I had won the identical 44VH to the one I had previously owned from a shop in PA then founds out I couldn't bring it here. I was thinking 'I had one here... it was made here...'
I've already had it completely apart, cleaned and greased... it's much happier now. When the new parts come in I'll give it a more thorough going over.

Welcome. and for more parts and top of the line wrenches and grips look to right to EWK and LB as they both supprot this place and make some great stuff doe the Dan's.
Nice looknig 15-2 What happened with the 44 mag that you couldn't bring in? So moving to Mass is a no no if you have a Dan or 2 or anything else that goes bang!

Are you saying that an FFL cannot bring in a pistol from another state and then sell it to you? I knew that this craziness existed in CA, but MA too?

I think (not positive) that if you already posses one and move here you're ok. I paid the shop for their Gun Broker fee and all was well. Here's the kicker, I went to my shop to get the FFL for the 44. The owner looked at what I was getting and said "oh... problem with this. Can't bring it into MA". I was also picking up a rifle that I had won on GB from CO. It was sitting on the counter... an HK93 with collapsible stock, bipod, bayonet and a couple 40 rd magazines. THAT was perfectly fine but the 'wheel gun'... DANGEROUS! The laws here leave everyone who understands guns and crime shaking their heads. It's about control and not safety as the pols sell it to the sheep.
I'll keep looking for another 44 VH. My Ruger Super Blackhawk Bisley 44 mag is the substitute artillery piece for now.
Any handgun made before 1998 not on the AG's 'approved weapons roster and not already registered in MA is not allowed to shipped in.

If an FFL brought a 'non-compliant' gun into MA they can only sell it out of state. Said evil gun could not be let into the hands of mere subje…I mean, citizens.
Many MA laws mirror CA laws… lucky us.

There is a listing;
http://www.mass.gov/Eeops/docs/chsb/firearms/approved_firearms_roster_04-2011.pdf
Though the weapons on the list have been deemed acceptable from a safety standpoint the AG still has to give them her blessing.
It's a very convoluted system with lots of grey area derived from years of anti-gun types trying back door approaches to ban all firearms.

That's downright ridiculous that you can't even bring DW's back into the very state they came from. This needs to be turned around at the voting booth!
The problem is, we pro gun types are greatly outnumbered. Remember, this is the state that continued to re-elect Ted Kennedy even though he allowed his female friend to drown to save his own butt after driving his car, drunk, off a bridge and didn't report it until the next day... but, we're trying.
Oh, if the revolutionaries could see their state now...
