Last week I picked up a Dan Wesson and thanks to this forum I now know it is a 15-2VH8.

It has a lot of blue worn off but a clean sharp bore and locks up pretty well. I will probably re-blue and tune it up and thanks to the info here I have a good chance of not screwing it up.

Welcome to the forum, there is a ton of great information about how to care for your new DW revolver. Also a lot of nice people willing to share their knowledge, I am sure that you will enjoy hanging out here as much as I have.

If you follow Shoot's instructions watch out.  It took me an hour and a half to get the side plate back on when I just took it off to take a look.  It was my first time to see the insides.

O.K.  Here's your laugh for the day.  Took the side plate of.  Popped of easily.  First thing happened was the spring "behind" the little thingy that rotates the cylinder popped the thingy out.  It took me at least an hour and 10 tries to get the side plate back on.  Every time I put it on I'd pull the trigger and the cylinder wouldn't rotate.  Finally after frustration reached the max I realized there is a little track on the side of the thingy that makes the cylinder rotate.  I suck the end of the spring into that track and the plate went on fine except I couldn't find the top screw for the side plate.  Eventually it showed up under the table where I was working.  I'll not take the side plate off again.

Welcome to the forum.  Great guys and lots of good and interesting information.

The side plate came off pretty easy. It is dirty but I have seen worse. I just put a few drops of oil in it to loosen things up and will give it a good cleaning after I put some rounds thru it.  IT seems more complicated then the smiths I am used to. The trigger is pretty smooth so I don't think it will take much work except for reblueing. I will take some pics and put them up later.

Welcome to the DWF.

When you're ready to re-blue, you might want to contact DWF member hotbluer.  He used to do the factory bluing for DW.

And don't forget the pics. We live for new pics here.
