Welcome Raf. That's a very nice looking 715.
This is a great starting point to get that 715 running like a finely tuned machine

Thank you very much all for the nice welcome to this fantastic forum! I did a bit of cleaning today and I am very exited with the prospect of a real beauty. @brucertx thank you very much for the link to the tune up info.
Does anybody can shed some light on the date of manufacture for Serial 764XX or any interesting piece of Dan Wesson history for that time frame. I am a bit of gun history enthusiast!
Again, Thank You all for the welcome.

Welcome Raf. Fine looking gun.
Does the serial number start with an "S" or an "S/" or an "SD"? If not, then w hat you have is probably an early blued 15-2 from 1975 or 1976. It would not have a colored insert in the front sight and have no Allen screw in the muzzle to remove the front sight. If this is the case, your gun is either nickel plated or more likely hard chrome. Both possibilities would be very unusual and desirable. Also the barrel is likely blue. The 3 options above are the early serial number starts that began in 1982 with just an "S". Finally, they began with the caliber number "357". The picture will not enlarge on my phone to let me see. Steve will be along to give you more info I am sure. He is the Forum expert on these thimgs.

Ole Dog is correct Raf. Dan Wesson did not make SS guns til early 80's. Looks Nickel or Chrome to me as well. Very nice gun and the finish looks great. 76' was when the interchangeable sights with color went in, your serial # puts you right there, so I too would say early that year as well. You have a very nice shape from pic, and desirable gun. I'd would hang on to that one for sure.

Thank you Ole for the replay. The serial number do not have a letter or anything in front of the numbers. Its simply engraved (stamp) Serial 764XX. I am certain the frame and barrel are stainless with a recessed nut. The front sight has a red insert.Thank you all...
Raf
764xx is definitely a 1977 s/n. Stainless DW's first hit the market in early 1982 (or possibly late 1981). The earliest 715's in the Registry are documented as 1982, and they all have a letter prefix on the s/n.
It's likely that this is a Armolloy/hard chrome/np3 finish.

Thank you again for all the nice replies... I haven't found this many polite enthusiast around other forums and that includes thecmp!
@Steve Ct. I am so happy to hear the serial placed the weapon manufacture date around 1977, I was born that year! Now that's a great bonus for me. I collect classic military weapons and usually is due to a specific date associated with it. For example I have 2 M1s that I selected because of the service date of my gramps (1935 and 1943) during WWII and Korea. I Have a M16A2 manufacture in 1997 the year of my enlistment. Currently looking for Rem M1 to commemorate another important date to me.
After closer inspection the finish is a very thick strong chrome plate job. I been cleaning an polishing to get rid of some scratches and its getting close to a mirror finish. I will post some pictures late on in the appropriate threat. I discovered some engraving (stamp) under the grip across the tang. Its unreadable at this time. Like I said before I got the DW on a feels only, now for sure I will need another safe!
Again thank you all for the nice welcome, it is refreshing to be around the company of gentleman.
Cheers and safe travels

Good News: You have a 1977 15-2, the classic Dan Wesson revolver
Bad News: Actually, no Bad News, because "You have a 1977 15-2, the classic Dan Wesson revolver"

Please don't clean that beauty with a solvent made for copper cleaning! You may lose some plating over time. In fact, any ammonia product can cause an issue over time. A little vinegar or vinegar and water will work. Just wipe down with water and dry thoroughly afterward.
Technically, the glass is always full; half liquid, half air....

Since you are not certain what the finish is, probably best to follow this advice, BUT the copper cleaner issue is really for nickel guns, where the nickel is normally put down over a base layer of copper. Chrome should be a single layer process.
