Hello Gents,
Great website you have here. Looking at purchasing a DW 44MAG revolver and wanted more information. I've got a "thing" for 44 wheel guns and a DW looks to be a good addition to the stable.
Only problem I've got right now is the markings on the revolver, it just says Massachusetts no Monson or Palmer. Any ideas or it is a common thing for the city not to be included?
Thanks again,

Hello CF,
Yeap the owner is saying it only says Massachusetts. No other pictures are currently available. He's a upstanding fellow and not new to guns so I'm inclined to take him at his word. So I'm a little puzzled because I've never heard of one not being marked with the city of origin.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the ported barrels were only produced in Monson. This could suggest the 44 is of Monson era.-Wayne
True Wayne, but the spare barrel could have been bought at any time. As I recall the guns were all delivered with un-ported barrels unless the ported one was specifically ordered. I know that I purchased my first ported barrel at least 5 years after I bought the gun and the other two came along 20 years later.
Personally, I think the seller needs glasses.
BTW pageophile, welcome and tell your friend to take better pics and of the other side of the gun.

pageophile to the , eh? I've spent a number of summers in Ontario fishing on the Rideau on Sand Lake and Indian Lake and New Borough lake. Quickly picked up the "Eh" from you guys. Glad to have you aboard and yes we are a friendly bunch. What's it like to own guns in Canada anyway? Are the laws okay or restrictive. And if you reload there's a thread to show off you "stuff", and if you don't, well it's time to start.....
It would be great to see that "other side" of the 44 mag. I have one each in blue and stainless and they are a favorite of mine too!
Hope to see you around the nut house frequently,
Ed

Well owning a handgun is Canada is more than possible, just a few more hoops to jump through. Depending on the province there are more hoops or less, I'm in Alberta and have it pretty good IMHO.
We can't carry and have to state collecting or target shooting for reason of ownership. Both carry some additional considerations.
I had to get into reloading because of the 44MAG's 😉 So much cheaper and you can tailor your loads.
For 44MAG's I've got a S&W 29-2, a Ruger SRH, a Llama Super Comanche and a Desert Eagle. The DE maybe traded for a S&W 460V as I'm not a fan of casing base around the range.
Thanks again for the warm welcome gents and yes, I've made an offer on the DW. If he accepts you can be sure I'll post some more pictures.

Welcome to our little corner of the shooting WWW. That's a nice looking DW, an especially nice grip mounted on the pistol.
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

That 44 is absolutely gorgeous. I am a real Stainless Steel nut, but with those grips that is one of the nicest revolvers I've ever seen.

Mt first blue 44 was a 6" VH with Zebra grips too. They do go well together. A belated to the and a great find for sure. The 6" VH barrel is a very nice set up on the 44 cal. I like it almost as well as the VH 8. Just a note, if when you take it apart for cleaning you would happen to find a ported barrel in it, make sure to shoot only jacketed bullets through it and clean the inside of the shroud as well when cleaning the assembly. There are many discussion on this topic throughout the forum, but I would hate to see you get a barrel stuck in that very nice revolver. To clean the inside of the shroud, the best way a few of us have found is with a 12-gauge shotgun brush. Oh and too.

Thanks for the posts gents. I'm pretty happy with the purchase and those grips are quite sharp 😀
Yes, the shroud is ported but the unported barrel is in there right now. I've got the ported barrel off to the side, might run it with some jacketed loads to see the difference.
The way the revolver was shipped to me was a complete gong show, needless to say I'm happy it showed up at all, let alone in great condition.
