Hello from snow-bound MA. Recent recipient of MA LTC-A and am interested in Dan Wesson 357 revolver. Significant other thought it was very cool that the famed fireare was made in the town next to us. Her quip "you should see if you can find one" is being interperted as approval to buy one if I can find one. Thinking a15-2 with 2" to 4" barrel would be what would best fit my needs.
Going to dive into the forums here to learn as much as I can so I limit my stupid questions.

Hi Mike, we are neighbors. I live in CT, and over the years I have cruised by Monson and Palmer many times. A (non DW) favorite of mine is the Springfield Armory.
Let us know what we can do to help you find a DW.

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

To. If this revolver is what you want, youwon't be disappointed in them. I still have the one my love bought for me 25 yrs ago. Let your wife get a feel for it (if she likes guns) and you'll buy 2... Welcome from the Bluegrass.

Thanks Steve CT. Hope the winter hasn't been too much for you, I'm about done with it though.
Can you tour the Springfield Armory plant? I never go to see the S&W plant, retail store or range before they closed it to the public. I'd enjoy seeing a modern firearm factory in motion.

Thanks for the warm welcome all.
Bruce TX, I'll tell my wife that you concur with my interpretation. You might get an ear full though.
Adam 42, I also always heard there was no stupid questions only stupid people who asked questions.
ESE 927, two Dan Wesson's. I can't even find one around here for myself? I went to the Westborough MA gun show last weekend looking for one. Oh well, the quest is part of the fun.
Hick K, The only question I have right now is if there is a dealer in MA that routinely has DW in their inventory? I'd prefer to be able to look it over and see how it feels and fits my hand.
All, I saw a DW 357 15-2 revolver on an auction site with out a barrel/shroud. It was $399 and was supposedly unfired. How hard is it to get a 3" or 4" barrel/shroud? Is there any fit issues to worry about? What would the expected cost of the barrel be and would I be better off getting a complete firearm first time out?
Thanks
Mike

Mike-
I would normally advise to buy a complete gun, but you should have no problem adding an appropriate Barrel Assembly to a functionally correct frame. If you buy the frame, be prepared to spend $200 or more to get the B/A that you want

This is not the Springfield Armory that is building 1911's, it is a great museum in Springfield, MA on the site that built firearms for America for many years. Just a quick look at the Springfield Armory Organ

Welcome from Florida Mike. It is hit or miss to find a Dan in a gun store or show anymore. Most gun shops sell their trade -ins on Gunbroker or other auction site as soon as they get them. They don't need to tie up a lot of cash I'm inventory that may not sell for a long time. I use Gunbroker and have been very satisfied. Look for a complete gun with a tool for the best price. Most of the listings have too high an opening price or reserve, but there are usually a dozen or so that are reasonable. After you buy several you get the hang of it. That is what is called Dan Wesson Acquisition Syndrome or DWAS for short.

Does anyone know if Dan Wesson revolvers are even legal/approved to purchase in Massachusetts? I have a bid on one online and was sure it would be ok since they were made here but I do not see them listed in Massachusetts approved list for 2015. That would surly stink if I could not get one online and have it shipped to my local FFL.
Thanks
