Hey all. I'm a new DW owner, and loving it. A few years ago, my grandfather passed away and left his Dan Wesson (I'm still working on ID'ing it) .357 to my uncle. Until my birthday last year, he kept it but didn't really use it at all. Figuring that I would take good care of it, "Dan" as my family calls it, became my 18th birthday present. I love shooting it and I know that it has killed more than its fair share of snakes . It is a very storied, old gun (mfd in the 70's!) that has spent more time IN the Susquehanna than around it. It is in beautiful working condition but the whole thing needs reblued terribly (the blueing is coming off in flakes!). I have been sure to clean it religiously and look forward to offing some snakes of my own. I think i'm going to upload pictures of it sometime.
Edit: Here are a few pictures of "Dan", both in and out of the nice holster that was given to me at the same time as Dan (holster was grandfather's, although we can't recall a time where he fit into it).

Welcome to DWF, once you get some photos up we can help ID that .357. Also, our member "hotbluer" was a DW bluer, and does excellent work.

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

to the Forum from SE PA. We have a few members from around your NoTW. I spent a few years in Selinsgrove in the 70's. You close to there? We love
so post away! So you're 18. I wonder if you are the youngest
member? Looking to seeing you around this neck of the woods often.

Welcome, nice to see another PA member.
The guys here have several very good forum posts for working on and disassembling your Dan if you need. This is definitely the place to be for info on any Dan Wesson revolvers.

What you have there is a 15-2 with an 8" Light vent Barrel assembly (BA) or as we call them 8" LV. Nice looking, she has been road hard at times it looks like! Clean her up and you have many years of shooting enjoyment left!
Get you some tools for it over at EWK if you dont have any and an extra Barrel nut . the FO sites rock too.

from a south central PA member. Glad to here your 18th birthday had such a special gift for you. Handed down firearms with stories are priceless, there are a few in my home as well. The others have helped you along with identification of your new prize and also guided you to our member who is the re bluer of choice it seems. Glad you joined and look forward to more of the Dan's tales..

Thanks for your advice everyone! I have decided to wait to have Dan reblued until I go off to college. That way, I can spend more time enjoying shooting and less time waiting for it to be reblued. I think I'm going to have Dan reblued through DW Bluer. His prices are very reasonable and he seems to be very highly regarded. Cheers!
