Hello Everyone, Art Keys here. Thanks for letting me join. I officially became a HS / Dan Wesson owner today. A couple of weeks ago a HS Sentinel mkIII came into the store in very good cond. I knew alittle about Dan's and was around when the IHMSA internationals were held in my home town off Salina, Ks back in 1973. Well I gave in and fed my firearms addiction and picked it up. I think, think I might have something interesting here? I've read the post about fixed barrels and some not having barrel nuts. As far as I can tell my new HS Sentinel mkIII's barrel nut cannot be removed. If you look close the two slot nut has one "Edge that is sloped" and the ubiquitous "righty tighty" clockwise abutment so the nut can be screwed on. Now if this is old hate and I've missed various pics and discussion that clarifies or identifies this, I appologise. Could this be a "Fixed Hybred Nut"? Kindest regards from Arkansas to everyone.

I think that is one of the guns made for police issue with a 'non removable' removable barrel. Send David Abney a PM, he is the resident expert on police issue early Dan's and HS.
BTW welcome to the forum and thanks for sharing that unique HS with us.

I think the boys are right. Probably done for LE use. It looks to me to be after the fact. A socket wrench may be able to be milled to fit those slanting cuts and enable you to remove the nut. When removed you can encase it acrylic resin so it cannot hurt another Dan. Or put on ebay and call it a RARE fixed barrel nut. The fact that you cannot remove the cylinder is reason enough to remove it even if you have to send it to DW.

to the
Congrats on landing your MK III. I too believe the boys are guessing correctly & that the nut was machined for LEO purposes. The earlier DW "fixed barrel" nuts looked like this...
This nut is on my D11, which is 2 or 3 years older than the MKIII, but obviously can only be used on an expose nut shroud. Here is said gun, and I apologize for the funky photo, my photo host site got hacked a couple years ago & this was the result.
