I just bought my first DW . 357 . I'm still unsure what model it is or any other info. Thought I'd join to learn about it.

Welcome to DWF!

Where in Iowa? We lived in Davenport for a few years, and our Daughter was born there.

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Unfortunately, I can't add pictures as I'm on my phone. My lap top is out of commission. I'm in Cedar Rapids. :) thanks for the warm welcome.

Ok Sarah, take a look at this link,

https://www.danwessonforum.com/forum/things-a-dan-wesson-owner-should-know/what-model-do-i-have-3/

Are the rear sights fixed as well as the front?  did you get a  takedown wrench and shim to adjust the barrel?

No I did not. it was the gun , and a crappy holster. I know these aren't the best pictures but its the best I can do. Ie looked at all the stickies on here and honestly ... i'm not seeing the lineup. I took the grips off because to be honest I hated them and have new on order.

You're doing well so far Zarmalar, the folks here will get you the info you need.

That for sure looks like a model 14-2 (fixed rear sights, non-porkchop barrel shroud), what is referred to as a "Service" revolver (vice a "Target" model 15 which has adjustable rear sights), with I think a 4" barrel.

If you post the S/N (on the side of the first pic) there are some helpful gents that will get you the manufacture date (mark the last two digits of the S/N as "##").

What grips did it have and what did you order?  I think you can ignore the "writing" on the tang (the second pic), something the previous owner(s) would have put on it.
