I live in Northeastern Mn not far from Duluth. I've been hunting with handguns for the last 15 years or so. Contenders have been my choice and I really liked my 357 max barrel. On the 4th the wife and I went for a road trip in our two seater convertable and ended up in Walker Mn. There I found a 740 V 6" . I only bought it because I like the cartridge. On Sunday I found out what a great revolver it really is. I got everything you see in the Pic for 850.00 plus 58.00 Mn sales tax The scope is a Leupold M8 2x on a b-square mount. The two boxes of ammo on the left are 180 gr. the others are 158 gr. As near as I can tell all of the original factory stuff is there.  If these are as adicting as the contender it won't be the last one I buy.

curteric,

Welcome to the forum.  What a great start!  IMHO you scored a fantastic GTDW with that deal.  The Remington ammo alone commands some dollars on GB.  The Remington 180Grain ammo is extremely rare.  Looks like you got the spare barrel, original box,  and If that aluminum case was part of the deal it looks expensive.

The DW model 40 357 Supermag is likley one of the most enjoyable and accurate revolvers ever produced in double action.

Sweeeet score curteric, A 740 with extras, doesn't get much better. Sounds like a GTDW to me. Welcome to the group.

No question GTDW

Welcome to our world curteric, that is a nice score for your first Dan Wesson. The .357 SuperMag is a great cartridge, very accurate, flat shooting, but you know that from your Contender. I have both the 8" Silhouette version and 6" VH in my Dan Wesson, both are excellent shooters.

You already made the prediction...this one is only the start of your collection.

Curteric,

Welcome to the DWF!

I recently picked up a 740-V8S and while I have only fired less than 20 rounds in it I love it.  Very good feeling gun and the recoil in these heavy revolvers is very manageable!

Thanks ervryone. Yes the alminum case was part of the deal..

I spent some time working with cast bullets yesterday and am very satisfied with what I could do. Now to move out to 100 yds.

Actually DWAS can be treated and contained.  It can be very expensive, but the results are worth it...rofl

The prescribed course of treatment is multifaceted:

Spend several hours nightly in a constant shuffle from DWF>Gun Broker>DWF>Auctions Arms>DWCA>Guns America>DWF

Apply cash to the aforementioned Auction Sites, frequently

Shoot the most versatile Modern revolver ever produced frequently

Reapply the prescription as needed

Welcome

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

I met Curteric at a gunshow today we both were looking at a Dan Wesson .357 Max, we started to talk about how it would have been a great find if it didn't have a sling swivel in the 8'barrel and another in the grip. As we started talking I mentioned this forum and he told me about his nice find he had posted here. It was great to spend some time talking to a fellow Fourm member. The one DW I would like to find and when I do I have to pass, I just couldn't get past the swivel in the shroud otherwise it was very niceFrown.

It was great talking to Dan Fan yesterday. I had no idea that there was another Minnesotan on this site. I also passed on the  Model 40. Didn't see anyother Dans that I was Interested in. I did pick up a Rem 722 in .244 I'm also a 6MM fan.

Go into your profile & put your state in the location box, then it will show up in your posts. That's the easiest way for more Minnesotan's on the forum to run into each other.Wink

Sounds like you guys had a great day at the gun show, even if you didn't bring home a 40. There will be one out there, just gotta keep looking.occasion

Yes, to bad about the .357 Max it was set up for the previous owner for hunting, had the sling swivel in the shroud off center and another in the grip, why wouldn't you use a holster. Other than that it was in VERY nice shape.
