Hello! I'm new to this forum and I'm really excited about it. The first Dan Wesson I ever owned was the one my Dad got for me back in the early eighties. It was a six inch stainless vent heavy 44. I loved shooting that thing! Dad would reload the bullets and I would burn them up at our local gun range. I still have a lot of fond memories of that gun. Regretfully, I wound up trading it many years ago and have hated myself for it ever since. Fortunately, however, I was in a local gun shop a few days ago and saw an old Dan hanging on the wall collecting dust. It was a stainless 744 vent heavy barrel with an eight barrel! I liked to have fell out in the floor. I asked the owner if he could get it down so I could take a closer look at it. The old Dan had seen a lot of use. The original grips were still on it but we're dinged up a bit. There was some pitting on the front of the barrel and a couple of scratches here and there. Yet the cylinder locked up tight and the trigger break was as smooth as butter. Holding a Dan my hand after so many years was a shear delight and brought back a ton of great memories. Then I asked the most important question - "How much!"  He said, "It yours for $475!" It didn't have the original box or tools with it but I didn't care. I put it on layaway immediately. I guess the guy was just wanting to get rid of it. I'll be bringing the old Dan home in a couple more days. I'm looking forward to cleaning and oiling it up. My Dad passed away a few years back but I know he'll be with me when I go to put that 744 to work on the range. I've got a lot of questions for you guys in the months to come. Looking forward to putting this forum to good use. Blessings!

Very nice price on that Dan.  We're here to help out.  Get some tan Scotch-brite pads to remove the scratches. The rib can be refinished as well but requires some light blasting with 80 grit media.

Technically, the glass is always full; half liquid, half air....

Welcome to DWF, thanks for the introduction. You got one really great deal on that 744, and feel free to "put this forum to good use".

You will never find a more helpful and supportive group of DW experts.

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

dwf-welcome to the dwf from a PA member.  Great intro you have there and what a deal you made!  I am sure you'll get hooked back into wheelgun shooting with that score.
