I've lurked about a bit but finally registered since my first acquisition of the New Year was a very nice 15-2 Pistol Pack. I took a buddy to the shop to help him buy his first pistol; he ended up not getting anything but this gem was sitting in the consignment section calling my name! I've wanted to add a DW to my collection for years, and finally the funds and the availabilty meshed.

I had the great fortune to meet and work with Seth and Carol Wesson at a few gun shows back in the early 80's when I was a club rep for GOAL in Massachusetts. You can't beat having the features of a gun shown to you by the guy who runs the company. And I can tell you that Carol made an incredible blueberry coffee cake.

You'll find me on a lot of the boards, same handle. I love wheelguns, especially some of the very early ones. The other concentration of my collection is Com Block weapons (SKS, AK, Mosin…)

Anyway, this is a very nice 15-2 Pistol Pack, appears to be complete except for belt buckle and printed manual. It has the early style wrench. Monson, serial 860xx.

Oh, yeah.... $650, which I felt was a very fair price. This one looks like it might have been fired a time or two, but just. I was told it had been sitting in the shop several weeks, which surprised me.

Having the good fortune to meet & talk with Seth & Carol Weson would really be a great opportunity & memory to have, that's pretty neat.Smile

Congrats on your fine looking Pistol Pac score, it looks like a beauty! In the first pic, I spy what appears to be barrel wrappers peeking from under the bottom foam...if there are dates printed on those wrappers, would you mind sharing? Due to the production records being hoarded by the BATF, we're having to try & gather production info the hard way.Confused

And your Pac case...is that black, or brown? I have a hunch it may be black...?

Welcome to the forum, glad to have ya here!Laugh

Nope, nothing under the foam. I think I just didn't tuck the fabric back in right. The case is indeed black, I've seen some that have said these were replacements but can't verify that.

Very nice purchase, and Welcome to DWF. Your S/N is right in the middle of several that we know to be 1977 revolvers, and your style of barrel wrench is identical to mine, a 1977. If you wish to complete the accessories for your Pack, Ebay may be a possibility.

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Welcome to the forum zoom6zoom,

Looks like you picked up a nice pack.  I'm located about 3 hours down the road from you in the Roanoke area.

Welcome to DWF Sign Cool Pics that's a good way to start out I think is with the pack. And for that price I wouldn't have been able to resist it myself!

That is a great price on a Pack 🙂  I don't think you could go wrong with that one.  Nice to see a few of the black cases showing up--not too many members have them.

Here's a pic of my 715 with a brown wrapper and s/n.  Hope this helps!

It helps ME a lot. The newly updated Serial Number Registry now has about 40 pretty solid entries.

Everyone, please keep them coming. If you are the original purchaser, have a barrel wrapper, dated receipt or factory letter, spot an Auction with this info, etc., please PM me with the data.

The new S/N Registry will be published shortly, and updated regularly as we get new info.

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Steve,

Here's a GB listing by the original owner. I sent a message to see if he'd give me the s/n and date of purchase/manufacture. If he does I'll forward/post it.

Thanks a bunch for posting that, Jagg!DWF Sign That also helps to tell an approximate time as to when the calibers were roll marked ahead of the serial numbers.Cool

So what's the story on the black cases? Were they a limited-era issue? I noticed that the pack that sold on GB yesterday was a black case ( http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=151828833 ) but the latches were different from mine -shown here:

The one on GB is a case that someone made...unless it was some sort of DW fluke.Wink I'm pretty much 90% sure it was self-made. Here's a thread showing some of the cases a few of us members have made, for example.

/?page_id=3/revolvers/pistol-pacs-that-never-were/

The black cases are still somewhat of a mystery. As near as I can tell so far, they were early PP cases...between the original Porkchop Pacs & the later style brown cases...used both on the Model 15-1 Porkchop Pacs & the early 15-2 Pacs. The one constant that I've noticed with the black cases, is that the prop hinge is on the left...brown cases have it on the right.

Here's a thread showing the different cases, toward the bottom. BEWARE, this thread is extremely pic heavy, so give your confuzer plenty of time to open.Laugh
