Just bought my First 1911 yesterday and my FIRST Dan Wesson. After about a year of researching and looking at hundreds of 1911's I purchased a CCO. What a beautiful gun and can't wait to get to the range. I first want to disassemble and degrease and lube it up.

I hate to admit I have NEVER took a 1911 apart and looking for a video or step by step instructions. I have looked online and can't find anything on the CCO. It is  embarrassing to even admit I haven't broke one down but would rather ask then screw this beauty up.

I looking forward to many years of pleasure carrying and shooting this sweet firearm.

Thanks for any advice

Welcome to the forum, have you looked at 1911forum.com? I am also a member there, there is a Dan Wesson subforum that is very active and may have a lot of info on the CCO and how to maintain it. There are a lot of 1911 owners here, but much of the time threads are centered on the Dan Wesson revolvers.

We do like the 1911s here too though, and we like cool-pics too! maybe a range report. I do not have a CCO but read a lot of favorable things about them.

Welcome to the forum!  I certainly had to find some instructions when I first got mine as well!

Welcome to the forum.  Don't go putting the "idiot scratch" in it after you strip it down and reassemble it!!

The idiot scratch occurs when a person incorrectly inserts the slide stop during re-assembly.

There is likely no 1911 owner alive that has not created the dreaded "idiot scratch".

Proof positive that you both shoot it and clean it. AND that you have learned to be a little more careful.

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

It wasn't a big deal to me that the used PM 10 I bought had one, and the used PM 9, and the used Kimber Compact, and...

I just consider it normal wear and tear, like Steve indicates.

Not unlike the occasional ding, scratch, road rash that we all inadvertently inflict on our guns.

Anyone has never had an accident in their car?

Hit their thumb with a hammer?

Deleted a file on their computer?

Slop a lot of paint on a window frame?

"Idiot Scratch" means that that you shoot and clean your gun, and that you sometimes have a little "Boo-Boo". If it was meant to be perfect, it would be the Mona Lisa, and rumor has it that even the Mona Lisa did not end up being what the artist originally planned.

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.
