What do I need write? I was informed to post something here. OK. I bought a .22 target revolver, and took it to a local gunsmith for installation of a Wolff spring kit. The hammer was getting progressively harder to pull back for single-action shooting, and I reckoned this would help alleviate the toughness to pull.
Gunsmith immediately noted the left sideplate is cracked / split in two, with a fair amount of rust in the innards. He worked for quite a while removing rust and installed springs -- suggesting I seek and replace the sideplate if I might.
It's the Monson .22 target revolver, with a 22,xxx serial number.
I contacted Dan Wesson, and their VP for repairs (Kevin L.) advised this part no longer available, and I might check eBay, as well as other locations.
I thought of this -- seems logical to me that someone here may know of the part to sell me, or even perhaps a parts gun.
So.... that's what I'm doing here.
"HELLO!"

Hello Geo. I hear your pain. Without a sideplate the gun is useless. I have bought several bare frames minus sideplate and have run into the same problem. I have been buying sideplates on eBay so that I can complete the guns and build up a supply of spares. Unfortunately, sideplates are fitted before polishing and blueing. Each one seems to be unique to its original frame. They are also very fragile at the weakest point, where the cylinder stop is. I have broken one by trying to force it in. Others I have butchered trying to make it fit. A replacement will never fit as well as the original.
I have learned a few things though. By using a flat stone on joints and with a lot of effort the sideplate can be sometimes be made to fit enough. Never use a dremel. I have several extra sideplates but there is no guarantee they can be made to fit a particular gun. My last effort took several sideplates before I found one I could fit. Sellers of bare frames should always sell the fitted plate with it and beware buying a frame without one. A broken sideplate is another story. If possible, it might be braised or welded together? I do not know if that is possible. Let's hear from other members with experience.

Thank you! I have the pistol pack case, 2 1/2", 4", 6", 8", and 10" barrels; belt buckle, tools, inserts, and the case keys and a cloth patch -- too much of a divestment to complement a revolver with a broken in two sideplate? I will gladly pay a fair price for an intact one-piece 'plate -- the obvious challenge being finding one. I have long felt DW revolvers to be the very best -- to learn of, and see this crack -- has really disappointed me.

I saw a small frame parts lot go on FeePay last week that had a sideplate included in the contents, which sold for under $100 ... so they are out there. Also, keep a lookout for inexpensive small frames on GB.
Does the factory label on your PP case have the same s/n as your model 22 frame ?

Here is a pretty reasonable 22LR 520.00, could always sell the barrel on E-Bay for at least 225.00. I know it has been up for sometime can probably deal also.

Here is one on GB, I might be interested in the six inch barrel if you decide to go that way?

From Ole Dog's input maybe just buy a new revolver sell off the barrel if you do not want or need it and use the new frame and keep your old frame for spare parts.
