Welcome from yet another PA member.
CF, that is a sweet looking gun! The roll mark on the shroud looks like a Palmer, or is it all part of the custom serail number thing?
Whats the significance of that number?

Thanks! It is a Palmer roll mark. One of our recent new members (I forget who, at the moment) whose parents worked for DW back in the day, stated that for a period, there were Monson guns shipped with Palmer shrouds right from the factory. So I can only assume that this 44 may be one of them.
I got this gun from a guy who is associated with the American Historical Foundation, the folks who made most of the commemorative DW's. This one was to be part of an "animal" series, but the contract was scrapped before this one was completed. I don't know how many of these "Bear" guns there are, but I would guess there's at least two.
