Welcome to DWF, lots to research. Poke around and ask away. What variety of Dan Wesson catches your fancy? 1911, .357, .44 Mag or Super Mag?
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Many CRAs here. Corrosion resistance aficionados. With that being said, most model 40s have beautiful blueing. Blue will run 200 to 400 cheaper. DW stainless will corrode if not taken care of. A black pitting, however scratches can be polished out. The pitting is probably from leaving the gun in a tackle box or truck. Or in an non airconditioned cellar for 30 years.

The 8” pros:
Will be more accurate because of the increased sight radius
Higher muzzle velocity
Less felt recoil and barrel flip just because it’s heavier and longer
Less muzzle flash because more of the powder is burned in the barrel
Looks more manly 😉
8” cons:
Heavier
Fewer holsters around
Hard to draw to get that extra 2” out
A little fussier on the gap between the forcing cone and the cylinder due to the longer/higher pressure. I think the 8” tends to spit more with the same gap.
Needs a grip that extends backwards more like the Hogue mono-grip so it doesn’t tend to slide in your hand

To revise my comments about price, a model 40 8" V NOT new but in box with tool and extra barrel just sold for almost 1400 on Gunbroker. That is at least 400 more than a year or so ago.
DW, I think Norwich, made a Supermag holster that swiveled when sitting so you could sit or ride a horse in comfort. I have the only one I have ever seen for sale. Does anyone else have one?
