Good morning to the folks in the Dan Wesson Forum. I'm new to the site but have determined that I will buy wiythin the week a new Dan Wesson... Now my problem is I can't decide on the Specialist or the Valor ( Everone should have such a problem right ) Realizing that they are bot exceptional in every regard and that the rail and ambi are about the biggest differances I'm kind of leaning toword the Specialist frankly just because I like the look BUT ( and not a small comsideration ) I'm an ex 1969 era military person and like the clean lines of the Valor. What to do?? What to do???? I'm sure a lot of you guys have been down the same road....... any advice from the  group??

    Thanks from the newbe

Buy them all.big-grin

That's what the rest of us do; it's called DWAS (Dan Wesson Acquisition Syndrome).

This began as a site dedicated to the revolvers but has evolved into a site for anything DW. Many of us have a bunch of both the revolvers and the 1911's. Either way the guns are incomparable.

Oh, dwf-welcome to the dwf.

Looking forward to hearing what you do and seeing some cool-pics of the result.

Welcome to DWF, you have a tough choice between two great guns.

Do you need a rail for some specific purpose? I don't really care for the look of it on a 1911, and it may complicate holster selection.

Also, if you are considering using this gun for Concealed Carry, I would give the VBOB a look as well.

And  1911 Forum Dan Wesson subforum is a great resource. Keith DW is there with some regularity, and Dave Severns is pretty much the DW 1911 guru

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

laughing.  I'm a +1 with Zoommb..  lolol...   Welcome to DWF..  I personally like the looks of the Specialist. I think you'll find them both to be a quality 1911 so I would say it just depends on preference to the look.   Might as well look around and buy yourself a revolver while your at it. You'll love it too.  Be sure to let us know what you decide and most definitely show us the pics and a range report..

Welcome to the forum, but if you came here to find help narrowing down to just one Dan Wesson purchase you are talking to the wrong peoplesmile

I am sure both are great 1911s, just my personal preference I like the clean lines of the Valor, like the ads say 'everything you need on a 1911 and nothing you don't' or something to that effect.

The Specialist is basically a railed Valor so internally and functionally they are the same.  Cosmetically, the Specialist has the rail and as SteveCT stated, that could make holstering it a bit difficult.  If you want a tactical pistol and want to mount a laser or flashlight, then the rail is a good thing.  I prefer the clean lines of the Valor to the Specialist but also enjoy the rail as well.  Either way you go, you will be getting flagship level product, ENJOY!

BTW post those pics when you finally decide.
