Hello my name is Anton. I'm in Army stationed at Ft.Wainwright, Alaska. I just traded my mossin-nagan 7.62 rifle for DW 15-2 Series. I do not know if it V or VH (and i do not know how to tell difference), blue finish, SN 90431. I heard lots of good thing about DW thats why I did it. Do you guys think it is wise?? I hope my wife will like it lol. I will post pictures of my DW here shortly. What I want for this site is more knowledge on this weapon and maybe find some shooter partners from my area. Thanks.

Anton-Welcome to DWF, and thank you for serving. The letter designations refer to the barrel shroud type. The standard shroud has no letter designation, with no underlug and no vent rib.
V is Vent top rib, VH is Vent top rib and Heavy underlug, H is non vent rib and Heavy underlug
So if yours has, say six inch vent rib heavy underlug, it would be a 15-2 6VH
I don't know much about Moisin Nagants, I can tell yours was made in 1977.
Spend some time looking around, somwhere here are answers to most any question you might have.

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Welcome!
I think you will be well pleased with the DW... though I am not sure it will take down the bigger critters in your area ( Kodiak or moose), but it is a very pleasant gun to shoot. Report back to us with pictures and range report!
PS... my wife liked mine so much I bought her.. her own, and a custom grip ( over yonder>>> and a custom purse to carry it in. SHe took it to work so show her friends.. now several of them say they want one! Of course shooting is the key part. I just got a check from sister who bought the last one I sold... she couldn't stand to shoot the 380 pocket gun.. but loves the 715 6V/ 4

The gun in the pic has a blue vented 4" barrel assembly attached to it. To figure the length, count the vents in the rib, 2 equals a 4", 3 a 6", 4 a 8" etc.
Very nice model 15-2 DW!!
I noticed that it has the older style adjustable rear sight, these can become unstable if not properly cared for over time, it seems that the very small threads in the adjustment wear out. I believe that BlackTop posted some very useful information on this not too long ago.
Pretty soon DWAS will set in if not already, and your DW will either have a buddy or some additional BAs to keep it company.

Welcome, and thanks you for your service to our country. It must be real cold up there now and not much chance of shooting out doors. I am sure that you will love your DW as much as every one here on the forum does, they are great guns and were overlooked by a lot of the public because of the big boys advertising but trust this, a DW can shoot rings around any competition in the right shooters hand.
