Gents,
I just joined the Dan Wesson club. I think I got a GTDW from a local pawn shop. I walked away with a 14-2 with an 8" and 2 1/2" standard barrels and shrouds, DW target and Pachmyr grips, and the multi-tool encased in a brown leatherish pistol rug with the DW logo in gold on the front right cover. It looks like it was shot little but does have some holster wear on the 8" shroud. The 2 1/2" barrel looks like it was never used. I paid $350. This 14-2 was made at the Monson plant. Shoots great! So far have only shot it with the 8" barrel, which seems to be sighted in for 158 gr .38 spl +P. Did they come like this from the factory? At 25 yds, the 357 loads printed about a foot and a half low. Anyways, got to get to the range soon and do some more shooting. When I get some pics made up I will post, along with serial # info.

Welcome.. great first post. That was a fantastic price! As for the .38 versus the .357 ammo... I know my 15-2 LOVES 158gr .38's. It's scary accurate with them. I have less than 200 .357 through so I cant say so much on that. The .357 always seem to be SD rounds .. 125 gr going 1400FPS.. I am sure that changes where the lead falls.
One thing you may want to look at ( if you haven't already) Is to check the cylinder gap. This should be (factory .006) using the factory feeler gauge... but that can be reduced as you see fit at least a little.. I rather think about it like a "low-rider car" go as low as you want.. just dont drag the chrome. You can get great aftermarket parts from EWK >>>>> over there>>>>>>>> including a heavy duty barrel removal tool, new barrel nuts, better fiber optic sights, even fast twist barrels (1/12). Currently, I only shoot the EWK barrels... and as I broke the original tool.. his is the only one that still works.

Thanks for the well-wishes. The cylinder gap was set at .oo6 when I shot it the first go-around. I have it at .004 now, by the feeler gauge, for the next range session. Will see if that helps any with the 357 loads, and make adjustments from there.

Welcome to the Forum, sounds like you definitely got a great deal there.
If you have a 14-2, which is a fixed rear sight model, it's possible your 8" barrel is for a 15-2, an adjustable sight model. The front sight would be higher on a barrel for a 15-2, making the gun shoot low. Just a thought. I have not seen an 8" barrrel yet for a fixed-sight Dan, but a lot of other guys here know lots more about them than I do.
Either way, you definitely got a great deal at that price, on a great gun.

That's a good point.
I have seen (what I assume to be) 8" 14-2 barrels out there. I wish I could say for sure, but I lost both auctions bids. This first one is a 6-digit s/n gun that was probably manufactured in the mid-80's...
The second one was in this Pistol Pac shown below.
Now, so far the only printed brochures I've seen on M14 PP's has stated that they came with 2.5, 4, 6" barrels, but those brochures were from early on. I don't know for certain whether or not they added the 8" BA's to the PP later or if it was merely available as a special order item.
Str8shutr, check out the shroud differencesHERE & you should be able to tell if you have a 14-2 shroud, or a 15-2 shroud. And yes, a 15-2 shroud (and barrel) will mount onto a 14-2 frame no problem.
Regardless of which shroud combination you have, I'm certain that you got yourself a so congratulations are in order!
BTW, it sounds like your gun probably came in a DW soft case like this. That alone is usually worth $90+ so again...way to go!!
Oh & just because I posted a bunch of pics here, doesn't get you off...we're looking forward to some of your new DW!

Again, thanks for the well-wishes. Just tried to post pics, but can't from this PC. No computer at the house, and work has personal data backup sites (Photobucket) blocked. Is there another way to post pics directly from my hard drive? (I guess I need to move out of the Stone Age out there in the country, but HughesNet wants $500 for install of satelite receiver and around $125 a month for service. )
Looking at the barrel shrouds from link in Charger Fan post, I definitely have a 15-2 standard barrel shroud. Do they make front sight inserts short enough to allow me to regulate POA with 357 and this barrel shroud?
The serial # on my DW 14-2 Monson is 2589xx, does anyone know an approximate date of production?
Also, Charger Fan, on your post above instead of pics I see a little icon of a mouse. I tried clicking it, but nothing happens...does anyone know what is going on there?

Good News!
You are on THE Dan Wesson Source, and welcome aboard.

Your front sight solution is easy at EWK Technologies:

BTW-the mouse icon will enlarge photos up to the size that they were originally posted. That photo was originally posted only slightly larger than it is displayed, so you don't really see a difference.
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.
