Welcome!  The 744 was not offered with factory 2.5 inch barrels.  The large frame guns had 4,6,8 and 10 inch barrels available.  The Pacs usually came with a 6 and 8 or other combination of two barrels.  The only way to get a 2 inch is to try EWK Arms, he makes the best accessories for our guns.  You need one of his barrel tools, by far the best available.

Welcome to DWF, congratulations on the 744. I owned one with a 6VH barrel assembly and discovered that I am not really a .44 Mag fan.

In case you are not familiar with the Dan Wesson "Power Control" feature, which utilizes tiny vents in the muzzle to (theoretically) reduce muzzle flip, please be aware that:

1) If not properly maintained and cleaned regularly, you will likely get a lot of residue buildup inside your shroud which will need some regular cleaning and maintainence

2) It is recommended to shoot only jacketed bullets with Power Control barrels, but even that is not foolproof

3) It has always struck me as one of DW's worst ideas

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Well This is what I bought so not really sure of the model to be honest.  It is on the way to me as we speak!  It is a 744-vh8

CZ/USA is really crappy at supporting the DW revolver brand. If you want the straight scoop, call Dan Wesson in Norwich NY.

607.336.1174. They may actually have something in stock not listed at CZ

EWK makes stuff in batches when he has time around his full time "machine shop" work.

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Looks like you got a nice Norwich 'First Issue' 744.  All the barrels you listed in the link from CZ will fit your gun.  I agree with Steve, call Dan Wesson directly, they are great to work with and will have better answers for you than the CZ folks in Kansas City.  Did you get both the 6VH and 8VH with the gun?  If so, do both barrel shrouds have the numbered 'First Issue' crest on them?  More pics when you get it in hand.

Dan Wesson did manufacture a limited run of 2" .44 BA's.  I don't know if they still offer them.

SMF you sure do have a knack for picking up those unfluted guns, and that is an exceptionally nice set of 44'sdrool
