Years ago I purchased one of the first 15-2VH 4 barrel Pistol Packs that I saw in Houston, TX. That was an exceedingly accurate handgun regardless of barrel used but I had to sell it a few years later when money was tight. Now, almost 40 years later, I purchased a 4" DW model at an estate sale but with fixed sights; I assume it is a model 14 but can not find a model number. It is very accurate but does have a disturbing catch when cocking the hammer. That seems to happen fairly often. The gun looked in almost unfired condition and feels great in my hand so I hope I can remedy the cocking problem. That being said, I am very happy to have found this forum. Since I have not kept up with Dan Wesson revolvers through the years I know I can learn a lot here.

Welcome to the forum from PA, also cold today. We like so show us this beauty. It sounds like maybe the gun needs a good cleaning and lubing. There is a thread called the "Average Joe" method, gives great instrucitons on how to clean and lube the inner workings of you Dan.

Welcome from another PA member, it is brrr cold here too. Scorpio gave you the best advice, you may also want to try backing out your grip screw several turns, if the screw is in too far it can interfere with trigger spring travel. A very common occurrence with Dan Wessons.

Thanks for the help guys. I'm sure the gun does need a good cleaning & lube. The "Average Joe" thread is a great help. Pictures have to wait till I figure out how to send them. Computers, pictures and my limited skills don't always seem to work well together. Thanks again.

I'll second the cleaning & lubing idea. When guns sit for many years without any attention, the oil & grease inside can sometimes turn to a hard almost rosin-like substance. I bought one old gun that took me almost 1.5 hours to get all the gunk out of it's internals. It works fine now.
aboard, and congrats on your find!

My son (Miami) pulls that "cold day" crap on me all the time.
14 degrees with 30 mph winds and 24" of snow in CT, and he's crabbing about a day under 60 degrees.
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.
