Welcome aboard Joe. Don't wait too long to bore us with that story. The only thing we like more than long boring DW stories is pics of DWs. So hop to it.

Welcome

Joe,

Welocome!  And you have found Dan Wesson wheel gunners paradise here.  The only understood requiremnt is to provide some Cool Pics  as soon as possible to feed our need for those photos.  We here seem to share in the need to see more gun pics every day.  Glad to have you aboard and please tell us the story, we like those too.  There is a special thread for your first gun story.

Thank You for the welcome !

It'll be a while on the pix so I'll begin with the boring story .

I acquired my 1st dan in the summer of 98 as I recall . Whenever it happened it was  a transitional period  which , all too often, seems to be "normal" for the dan wheelers .

Anyway my mind was made up and I went to the local gun store and attempted to order a dan in 45 colt, 6 inch, short lug , blued , with wood grips . That didn't happen and it didn't matter that I was willing to pay the going rate ... The store owner tried a number of places to get a line on one including calling norwich , at that time , whereupon he was reffered back to a handful of distibutors "who may have some NOS on their shelves" .

I was informed on more than one occasion by the store owner that he could "get me a good smith , ruger , etc the next day !" I told him ,,, on more than one occasion ,,,that had I wanted one of those I would have ordered one of those in the 1st place ! I've had those guns and liked them very well but I wanted to "be done with it" so to speak and get the one gun , and only one gun , that I really wanted .

In the end I recieved a 6 inch 44 , stainless , full lug , unfluted cylinder , hogue grip ,not what I originally planned but at least it was a dan ! When it arrived as the store owner pulled it from the box he noticed that it had a 2 digit serial number and was etched "first edition" !  I sez ahhhhh that can't be right they've been around since the early seventies !  Dan Wesson revolvers had been but this was a very early norwich gun .

The man had sold certainly thousands of guns by that time but it was the first time he had laid his hands on a Dan , and I didn't think he was gonna let go ! Then barfly #2 handles it and so on ! I was about the fourth guy to handle my own gun ... They all loved it and I think some may have "seen the light" that day .

A good friend of mine owns that gun now , and he will for some time to come ! He is not ready to part with it ...It would be hard to say how many people have been "turned on" by that gun at this point ... It has that effect on handgunners you know 🙂

I now have a monson gun still a 44 and still with a heavy barrel , BUT AT LEAST IT'S A DAN !

To Mr Baldwin I'm from wythe co , nice to meet you .

To charger fan I sold it on the provision that I had first right of refusal , but he's not letting go ! Which is fine by me anyway I can shoot it all I want as it is Laugh

I recently bought another because I like a good project , which is good where dans are concerned cause you can't just buy it the way you want it ! LOL !

Did you see the dove grey dan on GB ? Is that anything more than bead blasted stainless steel ?

Well I'm getting off topic for this particular forum so I'll leave it at that .

Once again Thank You All for the welcome !

Welcome

That's a great story, thanks for sharing it!  I think a few folks have heard that "...but I can get you a Smith..." & nice job on the first right of refusal - I reckon that is probably the smartest way to sell a Dan Wesson!

I believe the Dove grey is an actual coating.  Chargerfan has it posted here on the forum & it is a beauty!!

Welcome to the DWF, great to have you as member

Ok, what a great idea, my bean is wondering now, what if, you roll through the swinging doors and order up a couple of Jim Beams on the rocks and a Dan Wesson to go! Got to be careful when ordering shots though! Laugh
