Hello to all!

I'm a retired techie who's married with one son (20 yrs.), been shooting for 58 years, and hunting for perhaps 45, though I mostly fish these days.  Still spend a lot of time in the woods, just not during hunting season.  I'm not a gun collector, just have about ten at the moment:

Remington Model 31, antique percussion cap double barrel 12 gauge,

SMLE Mk.5, Marlin Model 60, Walther P38 (P1), Kel-Tec PF-9 (2x), Heritage Arms Rough Rider, Nagant M1895, Dan Wesson Model 15?

Picked up the Dan Wesson at the gun show yesterday.

We went looking for a 2nd Kel-Tec PF-9, as my son is going to get my current (EDC) PF-9 when he turns 21 in December and gets his CC permit. I had also been looking for a Uberti Cattleman in .357 for use as a trail gun.

We spend a good bit of time in the woods in New Hampshire during the summer and I've had a number of close encounters with black bears.  I don't make much noise in the woods - you see a lot more that way.  As a result I've found myself far, far closer to Ursus americanus than I ever wanted to be.  I did start to carry a 9mm as a result, but since neither my PF-9 nor my post war P38 is built for hot loads, I wanted something more powerful that would also be fun to shoot.

At the show, I discovered that used prices on larger guns had come down a good bit in the past six months.  For not a great deal more than I intended to spend, I had a lot of choices.  It came down to a Ruger New Blackhawk and a Dan Wesson, both in .357 caliber.  The Ruger was in better external condition as the Dan Wesson had clearly been carried a lot, but the latter has better bores, was a bit tighter, had better sights and a little longer barrel.  Anyway, I already had an SAA clone in .22wmr.

What sealed the deal, however, was the Dan Wesson's wonderful trigger action.  It is significantly better than any Smith & Wesson I've handled, better than the Ruger, and better than any other handgun I tried at the show.  A major plus was the DA vs. SA action, and the fact that the Dan Wesson would make a much better home defense weapon or, in fact, be better in just about any kind of emergency.

I believe, from the serial number (2334xx) that it was made in 1979. Is it a model 15 or 15-2?

I'll be looking in the forums for any hints, tricks, or caveats about my latest toy.

Huffy, welcome to the dwf-sign from the Lehigh Valley. Great story on your acquisition of your first Dan Wesson. It looks very nice. Did it come with the barrel wrench, gap gage, or box? Thanks for the cool-pics.

welcome to the dwf-sign from Lancaster County PA.  Now it likely won't be long until the search for added barrel assemblies for that new Dan startes to tug at you, then another Dan and another.  We call it dwas.  Thanks for joining and sharing a bit about yourself.

Wisdom is merely the realization of how little one knows, therefore I am wise.

Welcome to the forum, you made the right choice with your model 15-2. I also was impressed with the action on the first Dan I bought, and now have several. If you didnt get a barrel wrench with it, check out EWK Arms on this page, he makes a great tool and also some other great stuff for Dans. And check out LB Custom Grips if you are interested in another grip style.

I've been on Forums where this gets you flamed mercilessly, and possibly banned.

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Yeah, there are a lot of Forums relating to a certain German camera that are like that.

welcome you picked up the right one art the show!  now add some extra goodies and you have a trail gun or a conceal.  Do check the side bars for parts and grips, you won't be disappointed!   Keep us posted and know that most of us have more than one Dan.
