Hi Guys,
Just joining up. I inherited a couple DW pistols from my dad when he passed. I havent even shot them yet, and dont know if I should. Man they are beautiful.
So anyway, I hope you dont mind helping me with the id on them. Here are some crappy phone pics.
I dont know anything about either of them. But DW was always the pinnacle, IMHO. So I would like to learn as much of the history of these two as I can.

Welcome! Very nice first gun and a BEAUTIFUL second. First looks like a 15-2 357mag with 4" vented barrel and shroud. The second is a beautiful engraved and inlaid 15-2 witha 6" vent heavy barrel assembly. I'd love to hear the history on that second gun. Have they ever been fired? The first one could be a fun shooter, but that second one maybe should be admired and not shot. Depends if its been fired or not already.
Anything worth doing is worth doing well.

Second one is a 8" and probably a collector.
Actually, it looks like a 6" from here. Each vent slot on the top of the shroud represents 2". Three vents equals a 6" barrel.
Tswenka, thanks for showing them off, they both look great!
Regarding the engraving, can you show us some more detailed shots? From what I can make out in the pics, I would be inclined to assume that it isn't a factory job. I think someone did it after it left Monson, but better photos might tell a different story.

I am the process of trying to run down the pretty ones history. I will definitely post more pics. Just gotta get them taken. There is also another thread from one of my tgo bud, trying to get me some genealogy help on it.
Who knew I would ever take on a project like this.....LOL. Any help appreciated. Never done any thing like this before.

Looking along the gun, I was tentatively on board with a possible "factory" engraved gun right up until the end...when the engraving took an un-forcasted swoop upward from the heavy lower shroud area, up toward to the virgin area of the shroud's snout. Not many engravers would have likely made such a brave move into uncharted territory, especially factory guys. That's the main reason I stand behind my opinion that it wasn't a factory job.
As always, any substantial, bonafide proof contrary to my (or the general) opinion is always welcomed.

Nice looking Dan's, sorry to hear about your dad! Know he has blessed you with a couple fine DWA's! Do you have the boxes / tools and such for these? If not shoot that top one but also get wrenches from our own EWK, and check out our grip maker LB for some custom wood!
