I'm glad I found this forum, from looking around it seems like a small group of really good folks.
I've had a DW Razorback since '09 and it shoots like a dream but today I picked up a pork chop .357 with a 4" barrel in great shape. It seems to have been carried a lot but shot very little with no cutting at all on the top strap and perfect bluing on the trigger still. I'm unsure however about the difference between a Model 14 service and a 14-2 service. It is stamped Monson, Mass. U.S.A. with a SN 256XX. I'd appreciate any info that y'all can give me.
Thanx again,
M. Caruso
P.S.
I'm having trouble posting pics from my phone. If it will help let me know and I'm sure I can send you one tomorrow from my desktop.

I've got another question that one of you may have the answer to. When swinging the cylinder out the crane movement is very stiff, it doesn't just swing, it has to be pushed to move in either direction. Is this by design or perhaps because the barrel shroud has been over tightened, or something else that I haven't guessed at?

Welcome from PA! Try a few drops of gun oil on the crane pivot and work the crane back and forth a few times and re oil. I've had some so stiff you almost couldn't open them and a few drops of oil and a minute or two of 'exercising' the crane did the trick. If it only binds when it begins to open and then gets easier, the BC gap could be too close, but you can check that with a feeler gauge, approx .005-.006".
Anything worth doing is worth doing well.

hey Tex,
what part of texas?
When you remove the barrel shroud the first time, you will notice that the cylinder's yoke is no longer covered. Your entire cylinder assembly will come out now (don't lose the tiny spring and plunger). Check the yoke and the yoke barrel for problems: rust, dirt, bent, heavy wear. Open and close it several times with the shroud off to test for binding.
You don't have the horseshoe clip on the porkchop. All the other DWs require you to pull the side plate to remove the clip to remove the cylinder.
Please start a post on the gunsmithing forum and let us know your adventure on this first tune.
I'm curious.

Hello again from Austin, Texas!
I'm waiting on the barrel nut wrench from EKW but until then I've done a little more looking at my new baby. It looks like it was carried some but barely shot. There is zero indication of flame cutting on the underside of the top strap and just two dark streaks there to give any indication of it being fired at all. The chambers show no residue or discoloration either. With a little Rem oil and a little more elbow grease the crane has freed up a bit and now swings free through about the first half of its transit but is still quite stiff at the lower end. I checked the cylinder gap and it falls evenly between .005 and .006. Some of the original bluing is still visible at the base of the crane even. When I get the wrench in I'll give y'all an update in the gunsmithing forum as prescut recommend. Thanks again for all of your help and support.

Steve, I think you are reading an extra digit in the date made estimate. I would guess 1972 or 1973.
I think you are right, Thanks
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

FWIW, I quit using Remoil some time ago on revolvers, particularly. It can get gummy when it sets up. Try Kroil or a Slip 2000 product for your firearms that may not be disassembled frequently.
I agree with Ron. I use Slip2000 EWL. Good stuff.
