Well, I just found this forum and since I have and love my old Mod.14 (porkchop) I figured this is a place I need to be.

Welcome to the DWF from mid Tejas!  You are surely correct - this IS where you need to be!

What vintage is that Model 14 'chop & did you buy it new?

More Texas Guys?

My son is a Texas Guy at heart, and I love him. I guess I can like you and say

Welcome

We need pictures and info on your DW or we will Cry

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

I'm not sure what year I came across my DW, probably inthe 70's . was not new when I got it, swapped it off to my cousin in the 80's and got it back about 15 years ago. I did buy a brand new mod. 12 when they first came out, don't remember when or what I swapped it off.

That's a fine looking chop - I have those same grips on  a 15 4".  It shows up in the banner every now and again with my hat.  Found 'em NOS w/ a hint of burl and really like 'em.

What's the serial number? We might be able to guesstimate a date of manufacture.

We don't have any reliable info on s/n and date for any 14's. They were inroduced in Sept 1971, and were replaced by the -2 Model (eliminating porkchop) which rolled out in early 1975

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Steve is right and that date range is probably about as accurate as we can be for now...however, we're continually trying to accumulate correlating data, so we'll be able to narrow it down in the future.

Yep, maybe one of these days someone will pop in with proof positive dated material for a Porkchop. Looks like they may not have used barrel wrappers back then, so that's out.

It appears that they used barrel wrappers from day one, but in the early days they were not dated.  I have M11's #64 & 65 and they both have wrappers, plenty of print but no date.

That's another data point we need to find: when did they start putting Quallity Control dates on the wrappers?
