We live on a little three acre patch of ground in north west Missouri. A few months ago I traded a Ruger seven mag for a Dan 15-2 & that started what my wife is now refering to as my new obsession. I spent countless hours (according to my wife) on Gunbroker, GunsAmerica, eBay, Armslist & this site learning. After a close call with a scam on Armslist I was able to aquire a 15-2 complete pistol pack on Gunbroker from a pawn shop in Georgia. This last week I saw another listing on Gunbroker I couldn't pass up, another 15-2" with an 8" & 2 1/2" barrels with tools & extra 8" barrel. I do have one question, the 6" barrel in the pistol pack has a problem with the threads. It looks like maybe it got dropped at some point & the nut drags in the threads. I thought about a thread file but I don't have one. Any ideas? I'll post some pictures the next time I get them all out of the safe. Thanks for letting me join your group. Torch 51

Welcome from the bluegrass.you might chek with Eric at ewkarms. He should be able to tell you what die you would need to get to clean those threads..

Yes, it can be straightened out but if it is just dragging than a couple of times of on and off may mostly fix it. I use a brass brush in the threads of any newly acquired dans, both on the barrel ends and the nut and frame. Don't be too vigorous in the frame though. Use oil or ATF. When putting the barrel in, screw it into the frame with the cylinder open as far as it will go to remove any rust and then back it out, close the cylinder and set the gap. So the same with the nut before putting on the shroud. There can be a lot of corrosion in the threads of these old guns. Once cleaned, you will only have to do it once in a while.
By the way , You have a fairly severe case if DWAS. Your wife is probably right. Tell her you could be golfing instead and wasting money too. Beware of Armslist, a lit if scammers. Glad you are here, among like minded. folks. It seems to be an epidemic. The only thing that slows down the DWAS is lack of funds.

i had the same problem with one of my barrels, i used a small triangle file to smooth out the damaged area, triangle files match the 60 degree included angle of the thread profile. just lightly work it in a motion around the barrel
and welcome

Thanks for the kind words gentleman. Had not thought about the small file, think i'll try that first. My wife & I got our consiel (? spelling) carry several years ago. She had been carrying a Kel Tek P3AT with a Crimson Trace Lazer but was having trouble running the slide. We got her a Colt Cobra 38 special with a 4" barrel, great gun but it's heavy to pack around. She's looking at some of the new polimer hammerless 38s with a built in lazer. Could someone tell me what DWAS stands for? Not sure what it is & do they make an antibotic for it? Torch51

Only no cure, but symptoms get relieved by a new acquisition....or some from a brothers acquisition..
It's very communicable issue...lol
