Hey everybody!

Originally from Texas but I live in Eastern Washington.  Proud to be a husband and a father of four incredible kids.  I'm a lifelong shooter, having owned my own gun since I was six - I even paid for it myself with money I earned working for neighbors.

I'm a pastor, and a few families in my church know I love to shoot, and so they pooled some funds together and bought me a 1977 Dan Wesson 15-2 .357 with 4 and 6 inch barrels for "Pastor Appreciation Month".

I LOVE this thing, even though I've only had it since Sunday night. It is my first revolver.  My other handguns are of the "tupperware" variety, except for my trusty 1911 Commander.

I've been reading this forum all week, and have already posted a little.  Thank to everyone who participates and contributes for making and sustaining this place, I look forward to supporting this forum for a very long time.

Carry on!

Welcome to DWF! Very creative approach to "Pastor Appreciation Month"

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Great to have you here. "I love this thing" is a sign of infection with DWAS. It was very nice of those families to reward you with a Dan. I suspect one of your congregation is also infected.  You did not mention grips. If you PM me your address I will send you some of my extra stuff. I suspect you are crafty and can carve or refinish a grip. I would suppose you have a barrel tool. If not , let me know. I have heard it is better to give than recieve.

Glad to have you here; take a look around- there's a lot to learn about your new DW!  Did someone in the congregation recommended a DW or was it just how it happened?

Welcome aboard Sam. That congregation is a keeper! Where in TX do you hail from?

BTW, we REALLY like cool-pics!

Well, so here's how it happened...

A few months ago, a bunch of guys from my church got together to have a "range day", where we went out to a local state-run shooting area called the LT Murray Wildlife Area.  We brought along out shotguns, handguns, and rifles and had a few friendly competitions shooting skeet, 200 yard rifle targets, and then handgun targets.

Christ the King Community Church - Men

One of the men brought his Dan Wesson 15-2... and I LOVED it.  Other guys kept saying, "Hey, let me try that thing", and I kept saying, "no, you can't use 'my' gun", and we all laughed.

Well, I guess they all remembered that.

A month ago, the owner of the 15-2 who has several of Dan's guns put this particular 15-2 up for sale, and he gave me first dibs.  It wasn't the right time for me to spend the money, so I thanked him for remembering me, but told him I couldn't do it at this time.

Fast-forward to last week, and a several men came in to see me on a Sunday afternoon at my office along with a couple of our Elders (if you're not a church person, Elders are volunteers who are named as leaders of the church along with me, and as a team, we make decisions about the church's direction and such), and they told me that a bunch of folks from the church had pulled their money to get me a gift for "Pastor Appreciation Month".

I opened the box, and grinned ear-to-ear, and then I'm not too proud to tell you I shed a tear or two because this was pure love being shown by some of my most precious friends in the world.

So, that's how I got it, and I couldn't be more pleased not only with the fine firearm, but the method with which I was able to receive it.

PS... That picture was taken that day at the range, and I'm in the orange vest and cowboy hat.  I'm holding my trusty Sig 1911 and also holding the Dan 15-2 that would later be gifted to me.

Tomball, Texas - a once small town that is near Houston and is now looking a lot like Houston thanks to urban sprawl.

There yah go, good things come to those who wait. Just wait a day or two more. A couple of extra grips are on the way. And a yellow insert front sight. They don't get lost against the target.
