Hi all, I've had my Dan Wesson for long time. Picked it up a a gun show in the 80's.
From looking around on here I think I have figured it out to be a 15-1 with a 4 " barrel. It has a pork chop shroud with internal barrel nut and low sights.
Serial number 438xx I think it was made in 1975 or so.
It doesn't shoot as well as it could. Looking down the barrel the rifling looks worn on the edge that touches the bullet to hardest athen ullet moves down the bore. Kinda rounded off. Most 50 yards groups are around 6 inches. But every now and again it puts them in under 3 inches.
Been shopping for a new barrel, just the barrel, no shroud. Often find prices in the $300 range but out of stock.
I just had the hand spring break, found one at EWK. Along with a new barrel tool and nut.
I found out early on dry firing was a no no. The way the firing pin is made there is a flat 90° angle where the pin meets the base. This type of pin is prone too breaking when dry firing. I think they changed this style of firing pin to one with a curve at this juncture on the firing pin. Much stronger than the sharp corner. Next time it breaks I think I will buy the new style and ad a chamfer in the hole so there is room for the curved pin.
It does have the frame going plum. Looks ok to me, doesn't effect the way it works.
I'll be doing some reading around on here to learn more. Thanks Leon

Scout, evidently you don't have a 14/14-1 porkchop. When they put the barrel nut inside the shroud they shortened the barrel by a1/4 inch. They are hard to come by. EBay may be one of the few places to find one. Winning a whole barrel assembly may be the only way unless you have patience.
Leo, 3 inch groups possible at 50 yards is pretty damn good. Your barrel may not be as worn out as you think. You could always use it for home defence where you might shoot 10 to 2 yards. Lol.
I thought the cone shaped firing pins switch had occurred prior to the 14-1.You will need the new style firing pin spring also.

Greetings my good netizens
3 to 6 inch groups at 50 yards can be good or bad depending on the circumstances and shooter.
If the shooter is a longtime bullseye shooter who regularly keeps them all in the 10 ring with his gold cup…. Then not so hot.
i like to try to take my wiggly skinny arms and poor aging eyes out of the mix when trying to asses a the accuracy of a pistol.
One can sit at a bench, use a sandbag and shooters “pinhole” ( or clamp a scope or laser sight on for a bit)
or if on is richer than I am one can get a Ransom Rest , well wow!
