Hi,
as the name suggests, I am...
...from the F.R.G., near the German-French border! 😉
Since recently, I am the proud owner (alas, not possessor - German gun laws) of a fine DW 715 .357 Magnum revolver as well as a SuperMag (414?) .357 Remington Maximum. (Reloading tips and suggestions on die manufacturers welcome.)
The 715 is stainless, with 2 1/2", 4", 6" and 8" barrels. Sorry, no pictures available. It eagerly awaits me getting a marksmanship purchase permit at my gunsmith's.
The 414 is stainless too, with both 8" and 5" barrels as well as a barrel/drum calibre 4mm M20 (whatever...) 8". Pictures of it can be seen - for a limited time - here. (I know, the filings at the rear end are ugly... but YOU try to find a DW in .357 Maximum in Germany!).
Myself, I am a mid-30 ex-Officer of the German Federal Defence, Medical Informaticist and paramedic assistant. I am shooting handguns (air and .22) as well as Ordonance Rifles (which multiply like rabbits...) with a slight fixation on Mosin Nagant and Steyr Mannlicher straight-pull bolt-actions. Most shooting, however, is in hunting disciplines now (7x64 Brenneke, 8x57 JS, .308 Win, .22 WMR).
Apart from that, I like rare and interesting calibres (AS IF YOU DIDN'T NOTICE) and plan to one day have a Contender made for 9x25 Mauser Export (C96-calibre for South America).
Greetings from the borderlands,
Ralf

Welcome to the Site!
So I looked over the .357 Max, wow someone did a number on it. I cant even figure what that second cylinder is for.
Congratulations on the collection. Keep us posted with how it all goes.

Hi and thanks.
That second cylinder is for 4mm M20 training ammunition, approx, with the power of an air pistol. It was before 2005 freely purchasable in Germany.
I have never seen it before. Ammo is still available by RWS, but I didn't find it in their most recent catalogue.
Here is an excerpt from their catalogue, I have no idea how old.

Welcome,
I replied to your other post-- yours is the second one I have seen with the conversion done to it. Some are 22, some are RWS 4mm.
If your barrel has a series of holes drilled in the FACE of the barrel, it will need a special shroud. If it looks like a regular 357 max barrel with just a smaller outer diameter, a normal 6" shroud will fit.

Thanks, me too... Just for laughs, I will post the prices for my 715 and 40 revolvers. Prediction: "You idiot!!!" on the first one, "You lucky fool!!!" on the second one. 😉
Well, first, I have to acquire some brass. Bullets should not be a problem.
Then, I will have to go looking for a die set. Do .357 Magnum dies fit, or are there dedicated .357 Maximum dies? Anyone a manufacturer?
After making a small number of loads - which I probably will have to improvise, I only got Speer reloading data where many of the components are unavailable here - I have to send them to DEVA to get a pressure diagram and see where this load is in the legal range. (I hope they fix their site soon.)
After that, I have to try to optimise the load -> back to DEVA.
AFTER THAT, I probably have my trap-hunting permit and am legally entitled to a third handgun for hunting. (Yes, I know - but my second handgun is a Walther TPH 6.35mm Browning / .25 ACP, which left me with a trap hunting handgun and none for boar and big game.)
All in all, it should probably be March by then...
(Like my gunsmith said - with Dan Wesson, you don't get a permit and look for a revolver - the permit is only valid one year. You get a revolver, deposit it at your gunsmith's, and get a permit later.)
Awfully complicated, being a marksman/hunter in Germany...

to the . Sounds like you have many hoops to jump through in Germany. As for dies many brands of dies will do 38 spec, 357mag and 357 max. so you should not have a problem finding one as long as you can import them without problems. I use Hornady and RCBS mostly but some Lyman and Redding dies. Load data is all over the inter-net so that should be easy. If components are the issue you could see what is available to you and post here as I am sure someone on the DWF will have some suggestions and or favorite loads to share. Enough rambling for now, enjoy the site.

to the forum and congratulations on the 715 and 740. Maybe I misunderstand but I'm not sure why anybody would call you an idiot for the 715. I certainly won't. I got my 740 about six months ago and my 715 a month ago. Both are great guns.
I haven't started reloading yet so I can't help you there but others here obviously can.
Again .

The restrictions you live under are exactly the reason that a Dan Wesson makes sense, you essentially have "4" revolvers in your Pistol Pack. The price you posted for the 715 seems very reasonable give how scarce they are for you, and your price on the 740 more than balances the scales.
Welcome to DWF
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

aboard!
I stumbled onto your other thread first & must say, that's quite an interesting 740 you purchased. I like it!
It sounds like the 715 PP you found was maybe this one from the same site? Looks like a real beauty.
