Hey all,
Just inherited a 44 mag DW from my father-in-law, who passed away from stupid Covid. He bought it new and kept it in the closet, and to my knowledge it's barely been shot. I plan to reload for it and take as good care of it as I can. But I definitely plan to shoot it periodically. Anyway, attached are pics. I'm sure no one's impressed on here, but it really is a fine pistol. Any advice on how to take care of the bluing (which is purplish now - I've been reading about that already)? Any other advice on what to look out for or tips/tricks? First revolver. Been a semi-competitive USPSA shooter for about 10 years. So I think I can shoot - but this ain't a plastic 9mm. - Mike

Good to have you on the DWF! Just keep it clean- the patina is normal, not something that can be avoided on some of the revolvers. Now for advice: get a good barrel wrench and keep the gap set to .003-.004" on the tightest chamber. It's fairly common for the cylinder to not run perfectly square to the barrel. Don't use locktite on the barrel nut... shoot and have fun. Welcome to the Major Power factor, even though it can't be used in USPSA...
Technically, the glass is always full; half liquid, half air....

Welcome to the forum. That is a nice early 44 mag you have. The patina is normal a d requires no special care. As RWSEM said dont use locktite on the barrel threads and get a good wrench and have some fun.
Anything worth doing is worth doing well.
