Never owned a 1911 style gun. I'm an accuracy guy and mostly range shoot. Was looking at both the Pointman 9 and Sig P210. The new American version. After all the reading I decided to get the PM9, though I really like the look of the Sig. Maybe that is next. Should have my PM9 by next Thursday.

Welcome to DWF. The best thing about 1911's is that you can gunsmith/modify/upgrade your DW 1911 very easily. You probably won't need to do that, but you can.
Dan Wesson makes one of the very best true 1911's for the price.
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

All 1911s are prone to the 'idiot scratch' and you are not alone in having discovered this the hard way. Stainless guns are easy to polish it out, blue and coated guns not so much. Watch a few YouTube vids on 1911 takedown and you'll pick up a few tricks to keep it from happening again.
Anything worth doing is worth doing well.

Shoots great! Nice smooth operation. Unfortunately I wasn't aware of how easy it was to scratch when you put the slide stop back in on reassembly. That sucks.
Depending on the finish it's probably going to be somewhere between a 320 and 600 grit. Use a piece of wet/dry paper wrapped around a small flat piece of stock. A couple strokes over the scratch in the direction of the grain should take it out.
Next time you go to reassemble your firearm, install the slide stop by pushing straight down on it and don't swing it in to position.
