Hello to All. Thank you so much for the information you have all shared. I've been lurking here for some time and I've learned much about DW.
I bought a used DW15V6...I think mine is a 1...in mid-late 1970's for $150 (lay-a-way- plan). It had been shot lots and it was my first shooting handgun and I shot it lots. Such a sweet trigger..just point it and think about it shooting and it would. It wouldn't shoot double action 100%, but I almost never shoot DA, so didn't (don't) care. In the mid-late 1980's I sent it in to the factory because the cylinder would "float" when shooting heavy loads. They repaced the crane, some other parts, and messed up the trigger pull...still nice, but not like it was...still doesn't shoot 100% in DA.
I liked my 15 so much I bought a 22VH4 when they came out. I was never able to shoot it as well as the 15. I bought an 8" VH shroud for the 15 and barrels to switch between both guns and all shrouds. 6" was always my best.
I bought the first 44V8 I saw at a gun show in Billings,MT. Later picked up a 4" VH shroud and barrel for it.
Never thought of myself as a collector...just loved the DW guns.

LeonardC - to the DWF.
--it sounds like you are a collector now...
Should be no reason for that 15-2 not to hit everytime DA.
We have a bunch of suggestions in the various posts - a reason as good as any to spend time searching the forum!
We'll be looking forwared to pictures...
Great to have you as a member.

First and foremost the 15-1 was a Pork Chop shroud design.
Yours sounds like an early 15-2 with "powerwood" grips and the fixed front sight, circa 1975 -76. The fixed front sight was phased out and replaced with interchangable blades as a 15-2 improvement ~late 1976.
Got a serial number for that bad boy?

Sorry, no donuts...wife made me some shortcake with strawberry glaze...pretty good. I have a coworker that sent a slice of pizza to a supervisor in an inner-office envelope, didn't turn out very good. I won't try to send anyone a piece of cake.
No pork-chop for me. Mom said it was a bad idea to tell someone their baby was ugly, but...
My 15 s/n is 532XX.
Range report...well, I made a statement on another forum that I'd never been too happy with how my DW22 shot and someone called me on it. I've been trying to get out to the range and get use to shooting it again to see what it (I) can really do. My old eye isn't helping much and I can't figure out why I put that yellow sight on it, just blurs in the light. I was never a great shot, but the groups are slowly getting smaller, on the paper plate anyhow. For some reason the groups with the Kimber 82 with the scope set on 6X look smaller. Just can't figure out why the DW22 won't shoot that tight.

LeonardC- If serial numbering is any clue (not always the case with DW's), my 15-2 #7261x was bought new in 1977. It came with a very plain wood grip, no checkering or medallions. It still shoots great to this day.
On the subject of your .22, my experience is that .22 lr pistols can be pretty ammunition sensitive in regards to accuracy, and this was very true in the case of my 722. I experimented with about 10 different brands, 50-100 rounds at a time until I got my best results with Winchester T-22 Standard Velocity, which very consistently groups inside 1" at 50 feet. You may find some differences working the barrel gap tighter.
BTW to DWF
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Thank you for the information on the sn for the 15 and the advise on the .22. For now I'm just trying to get use to shooting it again. Have a lot of Remington stashed that I've decided to send down range rather than try to move. The local stores use to have sales on Remington and CCI and I would try to pick up some any time they were on sale. The Rem goes bang most of the time but I never found it to be great ammo...better than nothing though. I've had very good luck with the CCI in several .22 platforms. I have a small stash of test .22 ammo and wiill try all I have on hand when I feel up to the task. First item will be to order some black sights so I can keep track of the front of the gun!
Do you find one type of ammo is best for the frame or does it change with the barrel?

I only have 2 1/2" and 4" for my 722, I haven't done much accuracy testing with the 2 1/2", but T22 seems to group consistently with both at shorter ranges.

Thanks Steve I'll keep an eye out for some T22. I stopped by a couple of stores on the way home today and there was no 22 ammo of any kind to be had...I'm glad for what I have to shoot.
The wife is going shooting with me tomorrow so it'll only be S&W 60's and Kimber 82's. Her guns shoot better than mine so I won't let her touch my DW's.

Wow, that's sure different than here. Around here, .22 ammo is about the only thing left on the shelves...other than lint balls & cobwebs.

I seem to have something for gun co. that go under. DW, Kimber of Oregon, and Winchester.
I am shooting a standard LH 82, the wife's is a laminated stock 82, and I a have a fancy LH 82 I picked up at the final auction when they went under. I'm saving the fancy one for when I retire...only a few more years to go. It was sure sad to go through the Kimber factory when they were selling off the equipment.
Yep, I didn't see any .22 ammo; they had some odd cf ammo and shot shells. Only powder was Win A something for shot shells. The only primers I saw was CCI 209. I picked up some more black powder sub. and some prec. caps.
