John J. (Joe) Sheehan is my father, an absolute shop master. Can't tell you all how much supper table discussion was spent on the subject of DW over the years right up until he passed in '08. He was primarily responsible for the birth of the .44 line.
Mom (Joyce) passed less than a year ago, also another key management player @ DW right through to, and beyond the transfer to Serva. Last man standing @ DW in 96...was my mother.
Well guys, enough for now ... Glad to be here, more to say and show if you're interested.

It was quite a run for them both, to say the least. I still run into some folks from time to time in the area that worked for the company. Ma's always remembered fondly, Pops usually remembered as hyper focused and a bit steely. I worked with him after he quit P&W and opened up a Harley accessory fab shop with some other friends from P&W. Ironically, Banshee Welding and Fabrication, SMC Accuweld, Hinder Seat Co., and Katchme Distributing occupied the same place that years later would become the Wesson Firearms facility in Palmer.
Neither my brother or I are technical experts on the DW line. Mom and Dad were, and each of them owned several, including factory presentation models. The only one left of 4 is Dad's Satin Grey .44, sn 0000100 It's in storage in a friends safe. I'll get a pic real soon.
The reason I (we) ended up at this forum is because we're in possession of quite a few little tidbits of DW history, some oddities and standards, QA experiments, production reports...and one real eyebrow raiser.
Probably going to ebay it all.

Mike, thanks for taking the time to join the forum and share some stories.
I'll just go ahead and say that if you want to list your tidbits here first it would be greatly appreciated. The monetary value and viewability of ebay will be higher, but the items will truly be appreciated here.
Thanks again for stopping in and saying hello.

Welcome and thanks for sharing your family's experience at DW
As already stated you can list hour items here free of charge and I bet there is more than a little interest myself included.

Me and Kev thought there would be some interest here. A few years back I climbed onto the Yahoo DW board during a time when Pops was talkative ... thought he'd want to continue with it, but he was already pretty ill by then. Mom,.. well sometimes she let the emotional side of her experience get in the way and you could tell when that happened because her BP would spike.
We always thought the inside details of '79-'96 needed to be compiled and published, but necessary editing would have opened more gaps and left more questions many have now. Hey, it was a small company with a phenominal product, in my opinion...and my father thought this as well. At one time he attempted to bring a personal circle of investors to take the place over. The initial offering would have been enough to dislodge MacWilliams, but gaining financing to correct the machine and tooling concerns would have fallen short.
We're thinking that we could interview over the phone if someone's capable of conducting one. The Q&A on forums can get tedious for me...us. We'd be glad to let someone record an impromptu, post it to Youtube for the record. Great project for a journalist student, if you've got one...hopefully a rare one with conservative sentiments...Pops would have liked that.......

That's an awesome idea- thanks for offering! I'm thinking we open a thread for members to post Q&A for a period of time and then someone can select the questions we haven't already addressed somewhere already- or questions we don't have a clear answer on. Then we can conduct a phone, or in person, round table/ coffee table discussion.
Technically, the glass is always full; half liquid, half air....

That's agreeable to me and my brother. There might be one or two other resources I can contact that would be interested. Right now it's the main topic of conversation here as were going through the estate process, so some things are coming to light again. We're in, pick a rep and I'll give up my phone # for a continuing contact until we can pull off a round table.
I'm not on any other forums, and no plans to be.

Mike,
Your offer is a very nice thing, and it will be very exciting info for the DWF. Keep in mind that at this time of the summer the forum is pretty quiet, but attendance rises in the cooler months. There are several very knowledgeable and interesting Dan Wesson lovers who haven't been on much lately, who I think would be great contacts for you.

Count me as one of those who have been absent for a few days. Lots-o-projects this summer.
Mike, reading this is great news for all DW fans! There's so many missing pieces of the DW historical puzzle currently, so any new facts are always & most surely welcome. If I were any good at interviewing people, I'd offer, but alas...
Sorry to hear about your parent's passing, that's never an easy thing.

Funny, me and Kev are even straightening out some facts between us still... The parents leaving has been tough. I'm 55 and it's still painful...can hear the ol man barkin around the house sometimes.....and I laugh openly.
We've strarted listing some things on ebay, don't think it'll be too hard for you guys to find.
