Greetings! Southern boy misplaced in the frozen tundra of Nebraska. Home is a couple of hours North of Memphis- where the men are men, and the women are grateful. Relocated here 15+ years ago. I hated it, but the Mrs. loves it here (and she's from So. California- go figure.) So, home is where you lay your hat.
Bought my first DW probably 12 yrs ago. A .357 w/ a 4" barrel (serial number is in the 270,000's so I'm guessing an early to mid 80's?) Was dressed in one of the ugliest set of Pachmyr's you've ever seen. I've dressed it in an aftermarket wood grip that fits my hand, and I was off a runner. A very good shooter. Never did understand why anyone would put a crummy grip on a revolver. Load what fits your hand, and when it wears out, replace it. I like to shoot, but I also like to admire my firearms.
Ran across a DW .44 mag, 8" barrel, 9000 serial number a couple of years ago. What a cannon. Much more accurate than I ever would have guessed. Originally was fired very little, which, of course, has changed since it joined my stable.
Latest acquisition is a D11, 1970, serial number in the 5400's. Has never been fired. Headed to the farm with the boys in a couple of weeks (God willing) and, the unfired part is likely to change. Really, action is too tight. Needs a few hundred rounds through it to break it in. It has the pork chop barrel, and boy, is it ugly. But, this will make a terrific shooter.
I don't like hitting the shooting ranges; I prefer to take the boys out to the country and help thin out our excessive populations of snakes, turtles, muskrats, possums, coons, rabbits, blackbirds - and- if we head down to 6 ditch - a plethora of gar.
As a boy, if we didn't catch it or shoot it, we had spam for supper. So, I learned to hunt and fish at a young age. Passing that on to my boys. Oh, and I haven't eaten spam in 20 years.

Werdunn. Those are nice look'n DWs. I like the flare off the barrel of the 44 (is that right?) Now me not be'n a southern boy could you explain.."if we head down to 6 ditch – a plethora of gar. " And I agree those .44's ARE accurate.
We love to "share" stuff here, especially range reports and interesting if not cool observations some of us make about our guns or guns we see. Don't hold back of you have something to throw at us. You probably already know there are a few guys who know more than I'll ever learn for as long as the Good Lord see fit for me.
Again welcome and I like the picture of the littile boy on your desk with the DW's. Brings back memories for me.

werdunn,
to our forum, Great to hear from you and awesome introduction as well. Glad you like Nebraska, I have never been there, I just know they have a better than average football team. The DW .44 is a great firearm. Sounds like you have more opportunities than many others to use it at something other than paper, jealous over that. Please stop by often and offer your stories.

Let's see-
You introduced yourself
Told us about yourself
Posted pictures and a "shooting plan" for a new one
Nothin' left to say except
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

I'll pile on here with another
The DW trio looks pretty schweet. I'm a fellow 'Chop owner too, got a whole family of 'em...and you're right, they're generally not too pleasing to the eye. I've sure warmed up to them though, sort of a face only a mother could love.
Is your D11 a .357 or a .38? Mine's a .38, I hope to find a .357 to go with it one day.

6 Ditch is the sixth ditch outside of town (they call them creeks up here.) It has quite a few catfish in it, but is also loaded with gar. I put my oldest son on the bridge with a Ruger 10/22 (great rifle to teach a kid to shoot with) and a banana clip, and let him sink gar all morning. I also like to fill coffee cans, soda bottles, milk jugs, etc. 1/2 full of water, and set them out at 20 yds, 50 yds, 70 yds, etc. and let him have target practice. This gives him a better understanding of the velocity and hitting power of the different calibers - and a little better visual of the power behind each. Ironically, he took to the .44 like a liberal to spending - couldn't believe it. Took about a thousand .38 rounds, and he shot up all my .44's. Go figure.
I quit buying paper targets awhile ago. When we went down last time, I printed a few pictures of Glorious Leader, and Bride of Glorious Leader, and let him take potshots at those. We have a handful of 100 yr old white oaks. Nothing will penetrate them. The best part is, there isn't another house for 5 miles. So, there are a few ground rules for the kids - 1) Don't shoot me, 2) don't shoot your brother, 3) Don't shoot the house or the truck, and 4) For God's sake, don't hit any of the propane tanks. Other than that, have at it, kids.
The D11 is a .38. I bought it off a now defunct police supply distributor up East. Apparently, this was to be a service revolver back in 1970 ( a 2.5 lb service revolver .) I removed the Sacramento grips and replaced them with something that fits my hand.
