Hi all. Been lurking here for awhile but couldn't post pics as I was in Australia for a couple months away from the gun safe. The Monson M45 was built in 1987 as a silhouette revolver, with 8-inch HV barrel. I used it in that role for about six years in IHMSA matches in Anchorage, shooting 300-grain LBT/LFN bullets over W680. Scoped on sandbags that load would consistently group at 2.5 moa - plenty for iron animals. I never went clean but had a bunch of 38s and 39s with it - it is by far the most accurate CF revolver I have owned.
After my eyes started to lose their clarity - I started losing targets to poor iron sight acquisition - I quit regular IHMSA shootint and scoped the Dan for use on Kodiak Island. With a Leupold 2X in Millett rings it accompanied me for several years, racking up a good toll of blacktails. I used a single load, Hornady 250XTP over 15 grains of BlueDot; the load clocked just shy of 1200 fps and was very accurate with relatively mild recoil. I now live in Texas and have only used the Dan a few times on scrawny Texas deer - but it still works.

Long Colt. That Monson .45 is a scarce one, something all of us are looking for here. I guess you knew mugs and bev back in the silhouette days. They are in Arizona now, still shooting steel. You should take that scoped .45 and find a silhouette match...we allow scopes now. It's still lots of fun!

Yep, shot with Muggs and Bev for years - great folks and sharp shooters too! I still occasionaly exchange posts with Muggs on various boards. I also shoot the one-off NRA HP match but use a scoped T/C or BF for that. The Dan is pretty nose-heavy with the scope and HV barrel......
