I recently purchased a Dan Wesson W-12 with the barrel kit.  The serial number on the crane is 959.

After one trip to the range, I am incredibly impressed by this revolver.  A pleasure to shoot and the odd-looking grips (ME?) feel so natural in the hand.  Kit included combat grips the I haven't tried yet.  One question I have is the double action requires a fairly hard pull.  This is the first double action revolver I have owned, and don't have much to compare against.

I checked the DWF serial registry and based upon your serial 959, it looks like yours was manufactured after 1973.

Actually, it was sold in 1973 but model 12s were made in 1970. Yours is an early one. There were 10,000 models 11 and 12 made in 1970. Then came the recessed barrel nut 14 and 15 in 1971.

Thanks for the welcoming messages, everybody.  Tip of the hat to KurtB and Ole Dog for helping to pin down some history on this fine firearm.  Really good to know.

Ole Dog is way more knowledgeable than me, I learn from him nearly every day…and many others on this site.

Alright, we've heard all about it, now it's time to have a look at it.  I like the old ones, you don't see many.
