Hello all!
Am new to the pistol shooting sport, really having fun with it & eager to learn more and further develop my skills. Started with a .40 cal. M&P Compact, then out of the blue had a .357 SuperMag with a 10" barrel offered up to me at a price I couldn't refuse. Less than 50 rounds put through it. Just got my box of .357 maximum cartridges for it and am heading to the range this weekend to "get acquainted". Shot Smith & Wesson .357 Model 17? pistol before and fell in love with the cartridge and pistol.
In researching this gun, had a question hopefully someone can help with, the SuperMag manual say's to shoot only the maximum cartridge, but YouTube video's I have seen folks shoot regular .357 mag cartridges out of it. Any concerns with doing that?

Welcome to the DWF!Just pay close attention to the buildup of carbon and gunk in the cylinder throats. The magnum is much shorter than the maximum. IMO, I'd stick to the max.
I agree, but if you do use 357 mag round be sure to shoot them last, not before the maxis
or the maxis can get stuck in cylinder. from Ohio, how bout some

There is no significant issue with shooting .357 Magnum in your Supermag, but keep in mind:
1) The .357 will have a slightly longer jump to the forcing cone, not normally a problem but potential accuracy may suffer slightly
2) Beware of a carbon build up in the chambers that may make it difficult to chamber a .357 SM cartridge. Be sure to thoroughly clean all six chambers after shooting .357 Mag
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Thanks all for the info, they were very helpful!!
On the gun, I have a couple of small area's I am considering having the bluing touched up, not by me but by a gunsmith, anything special about the bluing on this gun to be aware of, or is it pretty straight forward as far as bluing's go?

Depends on what you want to have done. Looks like frame is a little "barney colored", a common DW look, matching can be a challenge.
That is a COOL grip !!
