Hi guys. I'm living in Dunedin New Zealand (lord of the rings country ) yes it was filmed close to where I live. Well parts of it was. I'm a member of the Otago Pistol Club where I shoot IPSC using a Para P16-40 Limited. Just got my first DW which I've wanted for awhile, cost me US$528 second hand but hasn't had much use. Came with 2 spare 8in barrels and 80 brass cases.
I've just got to sort the minor problem with cylinder locking (I'm pretty sure it's the barrell gap) apart from that its a lovely wee gun. Wife is hoping I'll slow down on buying guns now...NO CHANCE.
I'm ex NZ Infantry and joined the pistol club 3 years ago. Have purchased 2 Rifles, @ shotguns and now 5 handguns. Taurus PT92, Taurus Model 66 357 4in, Para P16-40 Limited, Witness .45 and a cheap .22 for the 3 boys.

Hey Kevin !
You have a Model 40 8VS, What's really cool is it looks like your serial starts with a EG !
Which is a Elgin Gates model. Here's more on Elgin :

Welcome to the Forum, that's a fine looking SuperMag, and at $528 US I think you got a realy good deal. Tear it down, clean and lube it, and set the barrel gap. If you haven't already seen this reminder elsewhere here, be sure to check your barrel gap on all 6 chambers, and gap to the tightest one. Cylinder face on DW's is not neccessarily square, flat, and consistent.
From the sound of it, firearm ownership is not very restrictive in NZ?
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.
