Hi all. I am new to this forum and am just getting my first Dan Wesson. Wanted a 357 magnum for a while and once I saw my father in laws Dan Wesson the Trooper fell from grace and I had to find one. Luckily on a trip to New Hampshire this past weekend I stopped into a little gun shop there and there it was. Brand new, still in the case Dan Wesson 357 barrel pac (4 barrels) never fired. Aparrentlhy someone bought it put it in his safe and forgot it for the last 20+ years. I put the deposit down but unfortunately I live in Texas and it will take me a week to get the FFL all set and shipped!!. Once I get it Ill post some pics, believe it is a model 15 but I do know it is VH and blued. Not even drag marks on the cylinder yet.
Two questions. First some of the blue is turning a bit plum color. I have seen this before on older blueing jobs. Is this common? Second, I don't know if I will or not, but if I chose to use it as my carry gun is there any smaller grip that anyone can suggest?

to the . And welcome to the world of shooting DW's. You're going to love your new DW. The plum color on the frame happens on some blue DW's; we call it barneying. There are smaller grips available in both wood and rubber. Check out both eBay and gunbroker.
Can't wait to see the pics.

Welcome to DWF. Yours is almost certainly a 15-2, and especially in a Pistol Pack, that is about the best First DW you can get. That plum color (we call it a Barney) is not exactly common, but it does occur, and is cosmetic only.
As far as grips go, several choices. If you want a rubber, molded, fingergroove type, a Hogue item is very available as current manufacture for around $20.
In my opinion, a better choice for this type of grip is the Pachmayr Gripper, which is no longer in production and harder to find
Slimmer profile wood grips are available as well, both new (from CZ/DW) and used (ebay, Gun Broker, etc.).
Just keep poking around here, you'll find lots of answers, maybe to questions you don't even have yet
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Well profit won't happen. I paid $1200 for that and a Ruger LCP. The LCPs around here are going for about $300 so I paid just under $1000 for it. Probably a bit high but it just looked sooooo perfect! My wife seems to think I'm obsessed with guns.
Keep telling her I only need one of everything and Ill be happy
