I just saw your forum. In 2007 I acquired a Dan Wesson 715V with a six inch barrel. It also came with a 4 inch barrel and rubber and wood grips. It's really a super nice stainless steel gun. I also have the original packaging. I'm interested in learning more about it. It probably has only been fired maybe 25 times.
I have several other Smith's, Glocks, and Kimber. I look forward to learning more about the Dan Wesson.

Nice looking 715 made in 1991-92. As you noted, it came originally with a 6V barrel assembly, and has an additional 4V barrel assembly. I suggest you do yourself a BIG favor and purchase an EWK Arms barrel wrench, and use use that "craptastic plastic" original equipment one carefully and sparingly.
Since it's already clear that you are mechanically inclined, take a look at the Average Joe Tune Up topic, it will help you in understanding the DW Small Frame function and what you can easily do to clean up and smooth down the action.
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Welcome from Ocala. Very nice Dan. One thing you should know. Never over tighten anything on a Dan. Barrel nut, sideplate screws or grip screw. Also, when ejecting cases, keep your index and middle fingers through the frame keeping the cylinder from closing up. Tilt the gun to the left. If the cylinder starts to close while the rachet is extended it will put nasty scratches on the sideplate and gouges on the recoil shield. Lastly, Wolff Springs do wonders for the action. Use the 8 lb mainspring. And shoot that baby.
