I am new to revolvers and I picked up a fixed barrel 715 on Gunbroker back in early March 2011. I was watching .357 revolver prices, got intrigued by Dan Wessons reputation for accuracy, and jumped on what looked like a good price. She is very tight, nice trigger, doesn't look like she was used very hard, but she definitely needed a good cleaning. I love the gun and I was happy with the price, so it was a deal. At first, as I read the forum I was confident that I did well until it occurred to me that you guys watch the auctions and nobody moved on this gun. Just wondering why. I know you guys like pictures so I tried but don't understand how.

Welcome to DWF. I'm pretty sure that my feeble old mind recalls that we have someone else from Lancaster, PA here. Here's a little Forum Advice:
1) If you like your DW, and you're OK with what you paid, then you got a good deal. Other people determine Price, You determine Value.
2) Posting pictures is pretty easy, I host all my online stuff on Photobucket, and paste links into my posts.

3) Make more room in your safe, you have bought you first Dan Wesson, probably not you last.
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

First welcome to the forum! That's a very nice looking fixed barrel! I still need a fixed barrel for my collection.

I actually don't recall seeing this one on Gun Broker. A lot of us here like certain subgroups of Dan Wesson's such as Large Frames or SuperMags while others like Small Frames. I know a few guys here have put together nice collections of fixed barrels as well.
The thing about auctions is if you miss logging in for a few days you can miss good deals at the same time you can also get good deals as well because of this.
That's a nice looking Dan and I would be proud to own it. I think you did well. Enjoy the forum!

Hey, Lancaster Pa, me too! Your 715 looks real nice to me, I believe you'll be quite happy with it.
Like Steve said, the biggest problem with Dan Wessons is that after you own and shoot one, you'll want more. A year ago I bought my first one, and right now my 4th one is in the mail on its way here.
Maybe I'll see ya around, if you run across me you'll know it, I'm the only guy in this county wearing a Dan Wesson Firearms hat.

edit-yep, that would by my barrel coming, too!

That's only because I'm currently out of the game...otherwise, you would have had a run for your money on that one. hehe I love the FB guns & hope to add many more to my stash before I'm done.
I foolishly didn't grab the seller's pics from this auction & don't recall the barrel length. Measure the whole barrel....from just in front of the cylinder, to the end. I'm guessing you have either a 7" or an 8" barrel there.
The FB guns were sorta like that old Burger King ad..."any way you want it", as evidenced with the box label below.
BTW, congrats on landing that one!!
Here's a shot of my yin/yang pair of 3" FB guns...

Wow! I can't believe the number of welcomes and how willing everyone is to share. What a great group. About a year ago, my 15 year old son and I started shooting at the Southern Lancaster County Farmer Sportsmens Assoc. with a Browning Buckmark .22LR and quickly desired more power. He loves the DW 715 revolver but he is killing me tyring to keep us in ammo. I'd love to hear more about the FBs and see more pictures. They seem fairly rare, though not too much in demand, yet.

Fixed barrel revolvers were manufactured by Dan Wesson as an attempt to price compete with other brands by reducing manufacturing costs. It seemed to me to be a compromise that DW should not have made, sacrificing the interchangeable barrel function and the tensioned barrel accuracy. The experience of of FB owners seems to be that they are very accurate, and realistically, I don't change barrel lengths on my DW's very often anyways. If I stumble across an FB at a good price, I'm buying it.

Like Steve said, the FB owners who post here all seem quite happy with the accuaracy of them, and you still have the great smooth action etc. I think the FBs were only made in the Palmer plant a couple years, so there arent a lot of them. And I predict interest and values of them are going to rise, they seem to be kind of a little known revolver right now.
Here is a link to a an old FB posting I found here, has some pics.
