Looking forward to learning a thing or two here and offering a thing or two when I can.
I have my Dad's 6" 15-2 that I adopted when he passed away with Alzheimer's in 1997. He bought it for home protection in the 1980's and I took him to a range a few times to get comfortable with it. It spent most of its life in a gun case under his bed. My Mom lived alone after that but was not interested in learning to shoot, so it became mine. I had enough guns of my own at that point in my life and I continue to be an active hunter and trapper.
I can hunt with a handgun in PA, but not here in Jersey. I probably put 100 rounds through the 15-2 since 1997, but last fall I decided to give it a lot more attention. It's a beauty and barely broken in. I am having some issues with the rear sight locking screw and I will post some questions in the appropriate forum later today or tonight.
Enjoy your day!

Welcome from your neighbor in PA!
What part of the Garden State are you from? I have a lot of friends in So Jersry, your gun laws are a bit weird.

Looks to be in great condition. That was my first Dan, a 15-2 6V. Great shooters.
It is truly like new. My Dad bought it new in the 80's never shot it more than a few times and kept it in a case under his bed. I shot it very little in the 28 years that I have owned it.

I live in the Pine Barrens of New Jersey. My mailbox is in Wharton State Forest, across the street from my house.
I wouldn't say our gun laws are weird, they're just strict and overbearing.

I've got some friends in Hammonton, not too far away.
I don't think I'd want to try to get a permit to carry in NJ. No hollow point ammo either.
A friend was a PA Sherrif and had to go to NJ to transport a prisoner back to PA for trial. They tried to arrest him and his deputy because they had their side arms on them when they arrived at the prison to pick up the person. They were told they must disarm or be taken into custody. He replied that he had to carry as a condition of his employment as a peace officer in PA and to do otherwise would risk termination. It went round and round until they finally left with the prisoner. They were supposed to keep their guns locked in the trunk until after leaving NJ, don't know how that went though.
That's why I said weird.

I was born in Florida but grew up in Point Pleasant Bch. I left the People's Republic of New Jersey in 1971. I went back twice not long after and it wasn't the same. I will never travel to or pass through NJ again. Folks in NJ are like frogs in a pot of water being slowly brought to a boil. They don't realize how constricted their rights are. In PPB it became illegal to spit on the sidewalks. Florida has no registration of firearms, no limit on how many you can own or buy in a certain time period. No permit needed for conceal carry but if you don't get a permit you cannot conceal carry in other states with reciprocal carry laws. If you have your permit there is no 3 day (really 5) waiting period to take your handgun home. State law says that Counties and municipalities can pass a gun law more stringent than the state law. You can shoot anywhere except across a street or at or over a house. Obviously, that precludes shooting in dense subdivisions. No permit needed to buy ammo.
Now, about your almost new 15-2. Be aware that almost all small frame guns have scratches on the sideplate from the extractor star. The cylinder tends to close when you are ejecting cartridges. There is no thumbpiece on the sideplate to block the star. If you don't have a scratch yet you are fortunate. As you open the cylinder with your left hand, push against the right side of the cylinder with your index and middle finger keeping the cylinder open while you eject cases. Tilt the gun to the left to help keep the cylinder open. Do not bang hard on theejector rod if you have stuck cases. That can cause the nub on the sideplate behind the cylinder to break off. Keep a pencil with eraser with you to push out stuck cases while holding the cylinder still.
Dan Wessons are the thinking man's revolver. To set the barrel gap requires brains. If you want point and shoot buy a S&W. I would guess you have a barrel tool. It is necessary for proper performance of you Dan. Lots on the Forum about setting the gap. Also, when screwing the grip on if you tighten it too much it will prevent the hammer from stayng back in SA.
OH, welcome to the Forum from Ocala, Florida
