Welcome to DWF, which came up first because it's the best. We're seeing more fixed barrel DW's lately, with several owned here on the Forum. I guess I get to be the first to say:
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

to Well to start it's a little difficult to narrow down a production year since Dan Wesson was bought out by CZ the orginal records of the Dan Wessons was taken by the ATF for safe keeping. Second you have come to the right place to find out about your DW you couldn't ask for a more knowledgeable group of people than we have here when it comes to the Dan Wesson's. What would you like to know about your weapon?

Welcome to the
Your fixed barrel 44 was made in Palmer, MA between 1992 and 1995. If your gun is blued then it's a Model 44 Fixed Barrel and if it's stainless it's a model 744 Fixed barrel.
I think this is the first I've heard of fixed barrel having an 8" barrel. Very cool! We have seen 3", 4" and 6" fixed barrel 357's and I think only 6" 44's until yours. Someone else will correct me if I'm mistaken.
We would love to see some pictures!

I haven't seen an 8" one yet either, sure would love to see some of yours.
We've got a Fixed Barrel picture thread going here, if you'd like to add to it.

Thanks for the welcome, guys, I appreciate it.
I dropped by the local gunnery, they told me they'd take it on consignment for 15% or $50, whichever is more, and they priced it at $275 and 95% condition. I think it might be worth more than that.
It's marked 'Dan Wesson Arms, Monson, Mass., BOP 12xx.'

Nimrod13, If this is the DW you refer to in your opening post this is a model 44V8. The barrel is interchangeable. Look at the muzzle end and their should be a barrel nut which can be removed. Are you sure about the letter P in the serial number? B0 is normal, the P is a mystery unless this is one of the custom numbered models. Either way looks like a nice 44 and at a good price also.

Is this it? (and the 'P' is a '2'. Darn these old eyes.)
The barrel is also ported on top. My brother bought this in the 80s to shoot IHMSA, but moved on to a Thompson Contender and finally a Wichita in 7r int. He passed last year and his widow got rid of his guns.
If the barrels are interchangeable, I suppose I would need to start looking around for them. Any good sources?

That is it. You will need a barrel wrench and a feeler gauge to set the gap. The shroud is ported but the barrel may or may not be. Once removed there will be several holes around the barrel if it is ported. New barrels and shrouds are available from Dan Wesson if you can stomach the price. Also the auction sites such as gun-broker, auction arms, and the like have them fairly regularly. Check out the FAQ section to the right of the screen for info on changing barrels and where to get parts. And as always ask any question here as there are a lot of knowledgeable guys here just waiting to share what they know and we have fun doing it also.

Yours is definitely a Monson Model 44, the barrels are interchangeable. It is likely that the barrel shroud is ported, much less likely that the barrel is ported. Please check out the FAQ's area on the right sidebar to get more info on changing barrels and grips. Barrel/shrouds are available on auction sites like Gunbroker and from CZ/Dan Wesson

The 2009 pricing for a blue 6" BA (Barrel Assembly) is $304
The wrench for changing the barrel is available many places, including our member EWK_Stuff
IMHO- $275 undervalued for that revolver. That grip is readily available on Ebay or Gun Broker, and you can have the entire revolver professionally reblued very reasonably

I hope you will keep and shoot that fine DW .44 Magnum. If you intend to sell it, you can do better that $275 - $50 (right here on DWF, I'd guess).

Thanks a lot, Steve, Bruce, I really appreciate your responses. It looks like the grip was chipped and filled, maybe with epoxy, and that my brother never got around to refinishing it. The fill won't take stain and will be obvious, so I think I'll ebonize it.
The CZ price seems steep, wrench 45 and barrels 300. I'd like to find a 4" barrel, so I'll check the auction sites.
Thanks again!

Actually, if you're going to shoot it much, especially with a 4", you're going to want one of the Hogue rubber fingergroove grips. EWK's wrench will probably run you about $25.

The people who placed a $275 value on that model 44 didn't know what they were talking about. $275 trade-in maybe, but retail should be about $200 more. With exception to the grip, the gun looks to be in excellent condition.
The 44 magnum is the most common large frame Dan Wesson. You should have no problem finding spares for it.

I agree, they're just trying to lowball you. Sorta the same when you trade in a used car at a dealership, versus selling it yourself.

Welcome Nimrod13. Just in case there is any confusion, someone gave you a price for a 6 inch barreled gun. However your gun has an 8 inch barrel and should be worth more.
If you keep it and shoot it, it will become worth even more because you will love it so much. Then DWAS will set in and you'll be in really big trouble.
Again, welcome to our little corner of the world.
