Hello all.
I'm a new guy from Texas. I'm presently in possession of a Smith model 57-0 that I need to return to its owner. It belonged to my father, who traded it to his best friend from high school for some wood-working equipment. A few years ago, I asked about it, and his friend brought it down for me to "hold onto for awhile and shoot a bit." I've offered to buy it, but he's not selling. I really enjoy it. I reload for it, clean and oil it regularly, and get all kinds of admiration for it.
It was suggested that I need to return it to its owner. I agree, and the very next time I see him, I'll let him have it back.
I've been looking on the popular online auction sites for a replacement 41 magnum. A few months ago, I saw a Dan Wesson in 41 magnum with 6" and 8" barrels. It went for $1600, which was far more than the old ball-and-chain approved for me to spend.
8" Smiths seem to be going in the $1200-1400 range. I've seen some in rough shape go for a bit less.
The other day I saw an 8" Dan Wesson 41 in the Cabelas gun library. It's listed for a grand, and I've asked them to ship it to a nearby location. I'll go take a look at it in a few days when it gets here, and I've posted a thread in the appropriate category of this forum seeking a bit of advice on it.
I saw a Ruger Redhawk in 41 at a gun show a few days ago. That is a massive heavy slab of metal. It's much bulkier than the 57 I'm temporarily holding. I passed on it. If I hadn't seen the gun at Cabelas a few days before, I might have bought it. I'll probably end up buying the gun at Cabelas, but I need them to come down a bit on it. Wish me luck!

Funny story. I went with a buddy of mine from work. I was shooting my Dan and my 9mm carry piece. He was shooting his 357 (38sp), Blackhawk (45LC), 45 ACP, and a two-shot derringer (38sp). To our right was a young lady shooting a 9mm; I didn't look closely enough to see a brand. She shot it okay. My buddy let her shoot his 45LC. She shot it very well, and liked it.
During the cease fire, she joked with us about all the brass we were throwing her way. I shot about 100 rounds of 9mm, and he shot that much or more 45ACP. She asked if we were playing a game to see if we could get it down her shirt. We all laughed. I said yes, and the winner gets to dig it out! We all laughed. Is that a joke about assault? In this time of political-correctness-run-amok, does that make me a pig?
