Hi everyone. Being from Belgium I didn't grow up with guns. Was always curious but no one in the family had any firearms. I made an m60 out of Lego's when I was little and used the empty brass I'd found on a school trip to the army. Looked at firearms from afar since then until I moved to the US in 2004. Lifestory, or the short version at least goes like thus, went to college in the US, lost interest in my major, started working, got hurt, recovered, got married, tried to honeymoon and got sued over inheritance of my wife's family house because yay siblings, got into 93k worth of lawyer debt so we could keep the house we were living in and moved into a 28ft trailer to rent out the house so we could pay off our debt. Tried to navy, was too old to navy so it took seven months to get my foot in the door and get to boot. Spent 4 days in boot, (really was good times, lifelong friends and all that) and got told I wasn't allowed to navy anymore. Spent the next two months in covid quarantine waiting to go home. Got home, wife's dad is passing away from self induced C2H5OH poisoning and liver failure and on a happy note, after five long years of trying my wife and I are finally pregnant with a healthy baby while I'm going to school at lwtech to get my foot in the door as a machinist.
I'm trying to become a firearms engineer but have to play it safe. My body is starting to show my mom's genetics and I have to focus on the computer side of machining rather than the hands on. Going to learn both but my day job needs to be sitting and less than 50lb limit.
Life plan for now is graduate, job stability, then move towards making my own firearm designs and other things.
I do many things as hobbies. Some (read wife, sometimes brother) would say too many. I started life as a jeweler in Belgium. I've been doing blacksmithing on and off since I was 12 and also do wood carving on occasion. Last but not least, I found the forum doing some research on my father in law's dan wesson stainless 44 mag. I'd never seen the barrel system before and was curious as to how it worked. Wound up here and now I've got some parts on the way to clean his firearms for him. He... Doesn't really clean guns. Ever. "I clean it when I put another bullet through the barrel." - Rod
His 870 was noticeably lighter and smooth as butter when cleaned. Only took three hours.
So yeah, sorry for the long intro.
Welcome to the forum. You may be having another hobby collecting Dan Wessons. They are a thinking man's gun. They are designed to be modular and not to need a gunsmith or the factory for most things that other revolvers would need them for. Barrel changes, grip shapes, timing issues, etc. You might want to start with a small frame 15-2 model.

Tyty. I've shot it a few times but haven't had it completely apart like my 686. My father in law's model is a 744 I think. 5k serial stainless with the six inch barrel set. I'm hoping to complete his set before he passes and passes it on to me.
I'm looking forward to interacting more on the forum and seeing what kind of fun stuff I can do with this. When I graduate college I might try my hand at making a cylinder or something.
