Hello,
I am from Madison, AL and am happy to have joined this forum. I joined hoping to glean some of your knowledge, and because I have loved DW 1911's for quite a while. I am considering trading for a 6" stainless large frame revolver in 45 Colt and hope you can help me ascertain vailue. It has a full underlug vented barrel, fluted cylinder, and is in great condition.
Thanks and happy to be here!

Welcome! A Dan Wesson in 45 Long Colt is a very uncommon caliber and is highly sought after. If the gun pictured is in very good condition, locks up tight, and is in time, it would easily fetch $1000 on an auction site, probablly more especially if it has the factory box, barrel wrench, manual etc.
If you can make an even up trade for this gun, DO IT!
I searched a long time to find mine.

I got it. And it is fantastic. I traded a used Talo model 686 for it. I feel it was a fair trade all around. Thanks for the warm welcome, I can tell that I will soon be very addicted to obtaining more DW revolvers. I love that the cylinder release is not in the same place S&W puts them. My N frames tend to bust the knuckle on my thumb.

On the sidebar is a link to EWK Arms, he makes by far, the BEST barrel wrenchs for our Dan's. Do yourself a favor and get one. I think you made an excellent trade! But I fear you have become another victim of Dan Wesson Acquistion Syndrome. It starts innocently enough with just one gun, but quickly turns into a quest of more. There is no cure but the treatment is alot of fun.
That forward cylinder latch helps to contribute to the accuracy of the Dan Wesson, since the cylinder is supported and secured at both ends.
I love being in a gun shop and the guy at the counter can't figure out how to open the cyl. to clear the gun.

How would I tell what year mine was produced?
Very hard to answer this question. DWF Serial Number Registry has one 745, #G0006x listed as a 2001 gun by the original purchaser. Not much info available on these, unfortunately.
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

It can devour anything a Super Redhawk can.
Is that really true? Because the Ruger Super Redhawk looks like something Marvin the Martian (see attached).
Now you're trying to tell me there is an attractive revolver with the same ability?
45LCMcD, welcome to the forums! I'm new too.

Yes, the Dan Wesson ranks right up there with the Super Redhawk etc for strength. Many loads are listed as being safe only for Super Redhawk and Dan Wesson revolvers.
