Howdy,
New member here. Glad I found this forum due to my worsening obsession with Dan Wesson. I currently own a W-12 pac, a 1911 Guardian and a Pointman 7. I just picked up a 744 pac with 8" and 6" barrels (Ported and non-ported) and shrouds. One question is did the 744 suitcase pacs always come with 4 barrels? I've looked all over on here to include reading the "Which model do I have" thread. I've normally seen the 744 pac with 2 barrels but I'm not sure. Any info would be appreciated. I'll get some pics up soon.
Look forward to bugging yall with all of my DW questions!
Regards

Jason, thanks for starting out in New Members.
The only enlightenment I can offer is , because I Don't Know, the Big Boys are not my thing
I'm sure that smarter people than me (I?) will be along soon to help with your questions, I just want to say WELCOME!
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Welcome to the forum Jason.
As best as I have been able to determine, the 44 Pacs came standard with a 6 and 8 inch barrel assembly which included 2 barrels for each shroud. One barrel was a "power control" barrel and the other was non power control. Power Control was DW's term for an early attempt at a compensated barrel assembly. All 44s had the slots cut in the shrouds, but not all came with the power control barrel. Early in the production it was standard to receive both barrels with a 44.
Of course, it was possible to order a pac with a 4 inch barrel assembly, but that was not the norm. I do not believe there were any Pacs available with a 2 1/2 barrel assembly. That was introduced much later, probably after the move to Norwich.
Please note that the historical information is very sketchy and everything said above is subject to correction as time goes by.
That's half the fun!

Thanks all for the warm welcome! I'll get some pics up tomorrow fellas. Was out with the family tonight. snake-eye, I tend to look towards your understanding of the 744 pac. My barrels and shrouds are machined for "power control" (Thx for the new DW term!). I've looked at them for a long time and usually have seen the 6" and 8". Sometimes I've seen them in a red lined case. Most times in the gold lined. Although I think the red lines was for the .22? Thanks
