Greetings
Here is my introduction as a new Dan Wesson owner. As a life long gun owner, in limited experience and use of hunting rifles, the times moved me to purchase a Glock 43 for concealed carry. A new mega in door range ( Reload ) opened in my town of Tarpon Springs, Fl. and a visit to fire the new Glock with my wife shooting my childhood 22 semi auto led to a membership at the range. This led to a 22 cal target S/W Victory for the wife. A century AK47 was added to the mix ( I can't say enough about this accurate, easy to own rifle ) and my desire for a target pistol sent me on a search for a S/W 586 6" in blue. On a lark I attended a local gun show hoping to find the 586 of my dreams and there in the last booth we viewed was the 357 Dan Wesson, my jaw dropped. Kept in a safe for the last 20 years the dealer said, it was flawless. I negotiated the price to $540 out the door with the case. I went straight to the range and it's a dream in 38 special, I couldn't be more satisfied with my Dan Wesson. In searching the web I am uncertain to it's history. Manufactured in Monson Mass, serial # 115850, no prefix lettering for the ribbed barrel and grips like none I have found. I feel bad firing this pristine example but regardless
of value it will be used and well cared for in it's new home. I look forward to following this site and appreciate the offered resources and information provided.rstonerjr, welcome to the forum. Don't worry, shooting your Dan will not hurt it. Mishandling it will. Because there is no latch release on the left side behind the cylinder you must be careful to not let the cylinder start to close while ejecting cases. The ejector star will scratch the sideplate or gouge the back of the recoil shield. Keep your index and middle fingers through the frame pushing against the cylinder to prevent it from closing prematurely. Almost all Dans have those scratches because of the owners realizing too late of the problem.
Your gun was probably made in late 1976 or 1977. Lots of shooters in your area. I have family in Pasco County and visit there on occasion. I think Adams Arms is very close.
When you are ready for more Dans look at Gunbroker. Com and for Barrel Assemblies and grips visit eBay.
