Hey guys new member Rick from Texas. Thanks for allowing me to join! I have a DW 15-2 got in in a trade always wanted one. Cleaned it up and found the loading gate latch sticks and I cannot open the cylinder any ideas I really would like to salvage the gun. Has a 6" and 4" barrel. The latch sticks even if the barrel is out. I thought at first it was a problem with barrel gap but that's not the case. The latch always feels tight or drags and then sometimes just locks up.

Thanks

Rick

Welcome- sounds like a cleaning session is in order...  Probably just a bunch of oil that has varnished.  Try this

The cylinder latch is retained in place with a small allen head wrench.  Remove it, slide latch up, and be careful not to loose the spring (which is probably where the problem is).

Technically, the glass is always full; half liquid, half air....

I once owned a DW that had a roll pin instead of a screw retaining the cylinder latch (never was sure if that was original or "Bubba"). I agree that the spring is the likely culprit, also pay close attention to the "notch" in the frame that the latch locks into. It can load up with incredible amounts of gunk and make it difficult for the latch to lock in properly.

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Assuming that your latch is retained by the screw as mentioned - after cleaning and checking/replacing the spring, be careful how far the retaining screw is screwed into the crane. If screwed in too far, the threads will bind against the latch and interfere with free movement.

Thanks for all the help! After reading all the post snake-eye nailed it! The screw was in too far binding the latch. I ended up having to use a T-5 star bit to back the screw out nothing else I had fit
